2nd Bachelor's degree
#1
Hello all I have a Bachelor's degree from a RA University.
I'm trying to get a second Bachelor's degree from TESU, I know that I need 24 new credits from AOS, but I'm wondering do I still need to fill the general education courses that I'm missing?

TESU Wrote:Earning a Second or Successive Baccalaureate Degree

Students who have earned a baccalaureate degree from TESU or an accredited institution recognized under the Thomas Edison State University Transfer Credit Policy and wish to earn an additional baccalaureate degree must:

Complete a minimum of 24 credits including the required capstone for the degree. These credits must be in the area of study and/or core of the degree. These credits must be earned after the date the most recent degree, regardless of academic level, was conferred.

Additionally, students must complete all other degree requirements as listed in the current Thomas Edison State University Catalog.

Emphasis mine. You need to fulfill all the gen eds.

Your general electives will be waived and the SOS 110 cornerstone is waived as well.

So once you do the required courses, all you need is the capstone.

What degree were you looking to do?

Thanks for the response!
I'm looking to complete a computer science degree from TESU.
I have only done Calculus and CS101 in the required courses, so everything else in the AOS will be new credits.

You need more than the 24 minimum as the AOS requires more credits than that, including the capstone. As mentioned already, your gen eds and free electives are accounted for though. You may want to provide more details, have you applied to TESU yet? Can you use this template here? https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...Area-works

Unless it's Introduction to Programming, "CS101" isn't a required course.

Please follow the template linked by bjcheung77 if you want more help.

Sounds like there's enough people telling me I'm wrong that I'm wrong. I guess I'm misreading TESU's catalog, or they're not following it.

I think you're misreading it. For instance, for BSBAs, the AoS is only 18 credits. Business Core is not part of the AOS. So, someone who had an English degree would have Gen Eds and electives waived, but they would still have to take the AOS and Business Core classes.

I'm not sure how someone could get a second degree in Business, with those requirements, to be honest. It's part of why it's recommended to finish CIS first and THEN Computer Science, should a student be interested in obtaining both. Even without the AOS overlap between CIS and CS, it seems very difficult to get a business degree as a second degree.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

Here is an excerpt from my evaluation:

Quote:SECOND BACCALAUREATE DEGREE

[...]

Based on University policy, all general education requirements, other than those considered specific degree requirements will be considered satisfied based on the completion of a first bachelor's degree from a regionally-accredited US institution. Your evaluation will show only those general education requirements that must be completed as part of your degree program.
