ABD friendly doctorate with max transfer RA preferred under 15k finish fast

I was just accepted to CapTech for the 60-credit Ph.D. in Computer Science program. They transferred 18 credits from my completed doctorate. I was hoping for 24 (for some reason, they didn't transfer anything for the very first course [research background] in the program). 36 credits comprise the dissertation (proposal, writing I - IV, and defense). So it's possible to get close to a dissertation-only curriculum.

The only thing is it's not going to be under $15k. Each course is $6120 unless you qualify for discounts (I qualify for a 20% discount through EdAssist). So at normal tuition, a dissertation-only curriculum would be $36,720.

Can you no longer transfer in 42 units?

Unfortunately, no. They began moving away from this more than a year ago when Dr. Iam McAndrew left. While I was in my D.Sc. program going to CapTech was the plan.

I have spoken with a few recent CapTech doctoral students and they stated similar transfer credits. Not that I didn't believe them, I wanted to see for myself. With my multiple Master's degrees, I thought maybe more would transfer. I am thinking I might insist they transfer CS 800 as well since what they have in red doesnt really align well with the CapTech course anyway.

Here is the transfer evaluation they sent after receiving my official transcripts for everything.

That sucks for people looking forward to CapTech. Dr. McAndrew would accept unrelated credits toward the PhD programs as long as they were less than 10 years old. LOL. Something tells me that CapTech saw the Reddit posts trashing the school.

I can understand a tightening up on unrelated transfer credits, but what about related credits? After completing four graduate degrees in the past two years in directly or highly related fields do I really need more background on computer science?

While I was in my D.Sc. program I watched so many videos of Dr. McAndrew talking about doctoral graduates coming to CapTech to go straight to disseration. I was sold!

Funny thing is that you won't learn anything about CS. They have no curriculum. The courses that aren't focused on dissertation writing are focused on choosing a dissertation topic and completing CITI training.

Ugh! I already have a topic with a literature review done, study methodology, and two current CITI certifications! I spelled these things out in my statement of purpose. I'm sure the person doing my transfer evaluation didn't read that.

I still say an OK State DHA is your best bet. Either that or go the Level 8 /DBA route.
