ALEKS Courses Questions
#1
Hello All,

Couple quick questions regarding ALEKES courses. I need to take Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra and Pre Calculus through ALEKES because it seems to be the cheapest route. I would like to know what I'm getting myself into before starting down this road. At 20$ a month its super cheap for three classes and 9 credits. I am hoping I can finish them within a month but if it moves into two months that would be ok. My questions are

1. How long does it take to get through a course (on average)?
2. What is the course structure is it assessments and then the final or just one assessment at the end of the course?
3. Proctored or Unproctored?

Thank you all for your input. I am just wondering how much effort I need to put into these because I work full time and go to school full time and have about 1-2hours a day to give to the ALEKES courses.

No such data has been collected. Depends on how well you know math and how fast you can learn it.

Synicaal Wrote:2. What is the course structure is it assessments and then the final or just one assessment at the end of the course?

Automatic assessments every time it "thinks" you've made progress. You can force it to give assessments on demand.

Synicaal Wrote:3. Proctored or Unproctored?

No proctoring at all.

BTW, it's ALEKS not ALEKES.

I started my ALEKS subscription on the 5th of this month. I breezed through Intermediate Algebra and College Algebra in about 4 days. I then started in on PreCalculus. I finished that on Sunday evening. Currently, I'm on Introduction to Statistics.

The speed with which you can get through the classes is, as alzee mentioned, based on how well you know the material. You will take an initial assessment. If you score a 70% or higher on that, you're done and can move on. If not, you need to learn enough material to get a 70% mastery level on the material. I was fortunate that my initial assessment for both Algebra based classes was in the high 60's. ( 65 for Intermediate and then a 68 for College). THis helped me only have to do a quick review and then move on. PreCalculus was a bit of a challenge. I had an initial assessment in the mid 50's. This took some time to learn.

Now I'm on Statistics and my initial assessment was a 46. I'm currently reviewing topics and trying to prepare myself to take another assessment. This is my last class through ALEKS, as there's no others that will provide me with transferable credit, so I'm taking my time to get through Statistics. I've got 16 days to get up to a 70, so I'm not too worried.

Every ones experiences will differ, but I think that's generally how things go.

Lastly, I noticed you only mentioned the two algebras and the PreCalc. If time allows, I'd suggest going for the Stats. Its basically already paid for if you can get through the others quickly, and it's 3 credits.

I like how I got it right in the title but then messed it up twice in the body.

I already completed at Stats Course from the CC I'm enrolled in, I think that would be doubling up credits in this case.

Yes it will be.

I got through Intermediate Algebra in a few hours, but college Algebra took me a few weeks. It's been 28 years since I graduated from HS, and that's really the last time I did much math, so I was not surprised it took a long time.

Haven't finished Stats, I'm imagining it will take a full month, maybe even longer. Just because I don't enjoy it at all.

Just did another Assessment for Intermediate algebra, It stopped after question 25 and said 73%. Am I now done and should request it to the ACE Transcript? Also can I start the next one right now or do I wait for it to hit the ACE Transcript first?

Request it on the transcript. They are really fast in my experience. Then once it's on there, start the next course.

Additional Assesments only 25 questions now? Just took second assessment for College Algebra and it stopped after question 25. Only got a 64% though so started a new one.
