ALEKS credits at Excelsior for a business degree?
#11
Could she use the Aleks course for Calculus and clep algebra?

Exfactor Wrote:No. If they assigned college algebra she will not get credit for pre-calculus. She would need a calculus course to get credit for calculus. Excelsior considers such courses to overlap, so you can only get credit for one. If she took college algebra and pre-calculus with Aleks she would only get credit for only one of the courses. Since the college considers them to duplicate. After you enroll you have 30 days to remove credits if you want, so if the college used college algebra she could contact her advisor to use pre-calculus instead.

This is what I was told by the Director of Advising Operations for the School of Liberal Arts:

"In response to the duplication on your file between ALEKS College Algebra and Pre-Calculus, the Liberal Arts Math Program Director, Margie Dunn, re-reviewed the ALEKS College Algebra and the ALEKS Pre-Calculus courses and determined that they do still duplicate. Students can only have credit for one of these ALEKS options."

If the college considers them to be relevant to her degree they will add them to her transcript, if they don't they possibly could add them below the degree line on her transcript if she wants to their.

Okay, that makes senses. So, if she completed beginning algebra, intermediate algebra, college algebra, and pre-calculus while she has a subscription to ALEKS and then when she has the credits sent to EC if they used college algebra instead of pre-calculus, then she can request that the advisor change it? She's starting with beginning algebra and working her way up to pre-calculus.

I would assume that could be an option, but she's trying to avoid taking a math CLEP. She's not a math fan and would prefer to use ALEKS. Smile

Correct!

For the business degree it states "Must include a math course at the level of Precalculus or above, Statistics, and a natural science course"

Aleks pre-caculus, and one of the statistics courses will satisfy the requirement. Excelsior also only gives credit for only one of the statistics courses also, they all duplicate.
