ASU to Launch a Free Global Initiative and enroll 100 million students

Quote:Arizona State University aims to enroll an additional 100 million students by 2030 through a free global education initiative starting in April.

The program, announced on Thursday, will be translated into 40 languages and put materials for five business courses online, with the aim of reaching students in every corner of the world. The program uses machine learning and artificial intelligence to teach and assess. The courses will grant academic credit and lead to a Global Certificate in Management and Entrepreneurship.

Quote:Enrollment in the first round of classes will be limited to graduates, but the program will also include undergraduates in the near future, said Sanjeev Khagram, the dean and director general of ASU’s Thunderbird School of Global Management, which leads the program. Credits are transferable to most schools and can be used to earn a degree at ASU, he said.

That's amazing! Thank you for sharing!

I wonder how this will impact their accreditation? If they're successful, and other schools follow their lead, it will change the whole college landscape.

It's an impressive initiative and I hope it succeeds.  I didn't go to the ASU website to see if there are any details available.  I'd like to know the required credits for the Cert and to see the curriculum as well.  It looks like the first serious effort to move MOOCs into the realm of real value.  If it goes well then it could become the template for a whole raft of different Certs and perhaps even a few basic degrees.  It would also move ASU itself into the realm of Mega-universities.

Amazing! Well, they're starting with Business it seems, hopefully it'll go through transfer to other "schools". That first offering seems like a great deal to prepare for further studies in business, since it should be RA and offers grad credit, it may also transfer into say a MBA, MS Management or MS Leadership degree elsewhere.

Yes, you're probably right.  15 credits, 5 courses.  It's a fair amount of work and could yield a Certification that actually indicates a substantial amount of learning.
