Affordable onlien history degree (BA and MA)

Hey! This is my first post on the forum; I was directed here with my question.

I'm trying to find a chance to get somehow affordable degree in history online (both BA and MA). Why? I want to teach history, and I already have really great knowledge and understanding in this field, but lack of formal degree is what makes me unhireable as history teacher anywhere on the planet, it seems.

I can't afford full time university (and no other good options for history degree here in russia; abroad is too expensive together with housing and all the stuff), and the only options online which I found were realyl expensive, liek several housand USD per semester.

Maybe you know some more affordable options? Preferably english-language, but I'll explore every opportunity.

Try reading through the beginners guide that is in the section above where you posted.  It will show you places to get quick, inexpensive credits.  There are many credit providers, Straighterline, Study.com, Sophia, etc. that you can take classes through fairly inexpensively to put toward your degree.  When you get some credit under your belt, you should apply to one of the Big 3 colleges: Thomas Edison State University, Charter Oak State College, or Excelsior colleges.  These are colleges that will accept the most transfer credit.  You only have to take two classes there.  They are expensive, but it is MUCH less expensive than just taking all of your classes through one university.

There are examples of History degree plans that you can look through.

Do you currently have any credits?  If you do, then you should list them.  Someone may be able to advise you how to best use them toward a degree.

Thank you! I'll explore this option for sure, those websites sound interesting. What makes me concerned, however, is that I'm not from the US, so continuing education there is really expensive for me (+add housing, car, and so on, and if I'll be able to get student visa), so it might not work.

So answer about credits at this point is obvious - I don't have them. I have masters degree in comp science in my country, that's it.

Of course at first I checked opportunities to get a degree here, but local education system is different, notable for lack of flexibility, so here the only real option is 6 years full time study, which is not an option for me. And local online degrees are considered to be worthless even within the coutnry, not to mention abroad (I'm gooa leave the country in few years).

And I will definitely read the form, thanks! Now I explored it only briefly.

Not in the US, but might move there in 3-4 years.
I heard that some 2-year colleges accept having master's degree only. As for schools, I heard nowadays it's realyl unlikely to get job there as history teacher due to enormous surplus.

Now my degree is considered as 6-years Bachelor + Masters (so is said for example in EU-standard addendum to my diploma, and as I read it's usually transferred in US as BS + MS as well), though when I was obtaining it it was a single 6-years specialist degree in university.
But little use of it now, as there were no common classes with degrees like history anyway.

Secondary school teachers should get their degree in their subject, not in education.

Definitely not.  You should always get a degree in the field you want to teach.  The only time you should consider a degree in education is if you want to teach elementary school (K-5) and will be teaching multiple subjects.

The schools we recommend are distance-learning schools, so there's no need to come stateside to earn your BA through one of them. Thomas Edison State University has a BA in History, and Excelsior College has a BS in History, both of which would be options. You might also consider whether it would be possible to skip the bachelor's in history if you could get accepted into an online MA in History with your foreign degree. That could save you a lot of time and money, since the BA would become obsolete after earning the MA. Two online Master's programs here that I know are cheap are American Public University and Fort Hays State University, but I am unsure whether a) They accept international students or b) How they would evaluate your foreign credential in terms of allowing you admission into the program.

Also, if you do decide to go for a BA, you should have a considerable amount of transfer credit from your prior degree in your country that would knock out a lot of GenEds/Electives.
