Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has been able to get credit for Aleks Beginning Algebra at TESC. One of my daughters just finished it but I'm not sure if I want to put it on her ACE transcipt if TESC is only going to put it on their transcript as a remedial class worth no credit. I know it does not meet their math requirement for general ed but I was hoping they might take it as an elective.

It covered my math req't for my BSL at Excelsior, I was surprised being that it was only Beginning level, but it did. To be totally honest, that was one of the main reasons I went w/the BSL degree. Considering they take FEMA credits, they ought to take that as an elective you would think.

wow!? It met your math requirement- that's fantastic.
I would love to see how TESC transcripts that class- I'd suggest putting on her ACE transcript. It doesn't cost anything extra, so it couldn't hurt.

My concern is that if it is put on her TESC transcript as under 100 leel for no credit that it will look like she needed remedial classes and reflect badly on her if and when she applies to grad school.

Ok, I get that.
I wonder if they would either evaluate it ahead of you having it "evaluated" or if not, perhaps she could have it removed if it comes in under 100 level. I'm not 100% up to date on how TESC does it, but I remember they have a policy for removing courses from a transcript.
I really think that course would come in as a 085 or similar, but after reading the above post, clearly EC evaluated it as 100 level- so it's really going to be a flip of the coin. When I double checked at my college
EICCD - Eastern Iowa Community College District, we transcript beginning algebra as "Elementary Algebra" 1 or 2, and both are under 100 level- so I don't know if EC had a brain fart hilarious or if it really is going to fly.

My transcript from EC reads:
ALEKS CORPORATION (MCGRAW HILL)
BEGINNING ALGEBRA
09/SP MATH 3.00 P
Of course TESC speaks a different language so who knows how they word it

My husband asked about this since he is enrolled and this what he received from the advisor-"The ALEKS Beginning Algebra course is equivalent to TESC course MAT-102 (General Math II)."

Well, YES! This is one of those instances where you probably wouldn't be able to get this through another college, but TESC allows it. Even EC, I think, won't take it as 100 level. Well, this is really REALLY good news for the math-phobes who don't know what math to use so they can earn their BA. In addition to this being so cheap, I think a motivated adult can knock this out in a month no problem- and I don't know if people realize that there is no test outside of your home, no clock, no pressure. Really, this might be
better than sliced bread
My son is finishing this week (FINALLY!!!!) and while I won't tell him, technically speaking, at age14 he would never have to take another math class between now and the completion of his bachelor's degree. LOL Of course, that's not happening though! hilarious
