Great score, I took it Monday and missed by 2 points. The passages were sooo long. I had about 8 minutes left to spare. So bummed.

So now I'm studying to pass Humanities, sched. for 4/2. Maybe this will do it for me, I hope...

Can someone help my understanding the way these exams are scored?

I just took the Petersons test blind to see if I might be able to sail through this test. It was tough!

I got the following score:

Score: 70
Percent: 70%
Correct: 56
Incorrect: 24
Not Answered: 0

Is the official CLEP score supposed to be the same as the percent correct, or is that just a fluke???

Dhecker,

The Peterson test scores you in terms of percentages (70% correct), while the actual CLEP scores you with a scaled score. However, based on your Peterson's test, I would just make a very rough guess that your real clep score would be around 60 something.

If I were you, I would take the real test immediately and get 6 credits! You had a great Peterson's score! Big Grin

I second that! Once you start getting above 70 percent on any practice test (at least 60 percent on Peterson's), then you should be ready to tackle the real thing -- which somehow always seems easier than expected. Hope it goes well for you.

I took the second practice test (you get 3 for $20) and this time I only got a 59%. It was quite a bit harder! I wonder if that would have been a 'pass' in the real test.

I took all three Petersons' sample tests and I think I scored around 49-51 (can't remember what the percentage right was). It was pretty eerie how, although the tests were quite different, my score remained very consistent on each test.

The main think I had difficulty with on Petersons and the actual CLEP was getting to all of the questions. On Petersons, when I actually answered every question (after the test), I got a lot of them right. This, of course did not count though. I was told by staff at Petersons that people usually score higher on the actual CLEP. I scored 63 and did not get to the last 6 or 8 questions; I think I had one more literary passage to get to and did not have time. I chose to put a letter in each of the blanks anyway, just in case I might get one or correct -- they are automatically wrong if not answered.

Based on your score, I agree with others who told you to try it right away. There is not all that much you can do to prepare for this exam. For me, Petersons just helped simulate the actual test environment.

Good luck!
