Anyone for some pork????
#71
Just got home from the night shift so I'll be brief. The people who bought more house than they could afford should not have been allowed in the first place. Banks paid personnel high bucks to weed them out. The lenders knew what they were getting involved in. My wife worked in banking since she got out of college in both direct and indirect lending and she is well aware of what goes on. The lender makes the final decision in direct lending. If someone's income is questionable or not qualifying, the lender's job was to see it didn't get done. The industry was frothing at the mouth w/these deals and obviously regulation was nil. I don't blame the homeowner in many cases, I blame the lenders plain and simple. But to move on to pork and Democrats, you obviously don't know where I stand with politicians as a whole. I think most are crooked and liars, both parties. What is totally unacceptable to me is conservative thought. It will destroy this country. If you think the poor and sinking middle class will stand for what has been happening, you are misled. I want my daughters to live in a safe environment with a fair opportunity in life. Many vocal conservatives are arrogant and snotty, any wealth they have obtained is hands off, regardless how they have come by it. I'd love to see them talk that smack in a dangerous neighborhood. Back to the pork, just in case you didn't realize, both parties will get close to an equal share of the pie, obviously the winning party gets more than the losers. Concerning your job, you prove my point exactly. You are concerned for your job, as you should be, so no way will you ever accept ANY reason for cutting the funding for the program. Whoever cuts it will pi$$ you off. That is happening every day to other unfortunates. But to conservatives, as long as it's not them, "Don't Worry, Be Happy". The pork ticks you off but it is affecting others in both a positive and negative way. When it's personal, then it matters. As for Barney Frank and the Dems, while they were supporters of this mess, it started at the TOP. Good ole, dubya wanted to increase home ownership for many. BUT......it sounds like a good plan, like the man has compassion. Wrong. With little if no regulation, his wealthy friends throughout the industry stood to gain "BIGTIME" from this circus and they did. And who were the losers? Many of these same homeowners and America. Both Dems and Republicans played a role and in the meantime, once again, the poor and middle class take a beating. When gov't says the wealthy, who have gained tremendously over the last 8 years must give a bigger slice of their taxes to Uncle Sam, you hear a collective grown across America. Then the Republicans head out and tell the country there they go again, they are raising your taxes. NO! They are raising YOUR taxes and now, hopefully, the populace in the red states are getting wise to this hot air. And the polls prove it is not working. So, the moral of the story is.......Ze tail doesn't wag ze dog!

Hi guys,
Sorry I haven't been participating on this thread, I've been in Korea for the past month and it sucks. I should be back home at the end of the month. This Kimchi thing keeps my stomach hurting.

Ok, so what does CSA stand for? I guess I'm out of the loop here.

Gary, as for the quote above, you might want to go back a few more years before "Good ole, dubya". Like the 1994-95 time frame when this home owner fiasco actually started. AKA Clinton Era.

Your turn Gary, Fire awayBig Grin

Gary, I think we mean completely different things when we say conservatism. Could you provide us with your definition of conservatism in 3 sentences or less?

Gary Wrote:Aaaaahhhh, what the heck, I'm well rested. You don't know what to think so I'll tell you what you should think. That the conservative movement in this country is based partly on racism, but they will swear that it is not. The conservative movement wants you to think the Dems are going to raise your taxes AND move America into a socialist society. The first is true if you make upwards of $200,000 a year. There is nothing wrong w/that, that's old news. I think they are aiming their arrow at the red states, especially those who don't know better. The false message, they hope will be accepted by the "huddled" masses there, the ones lined up outside the unemployment office, food banks, job fairs and other gatherings where they try for a renewed dream. They don't get it yet, but someday soon they will. At least we can only hope! As far as socialism is concerned, the slight appearance may be there, but how do they explain gov't as it was when they were in power. What kind of hokey gov't was that anyway? That was a democracy, huh? THIS MESS WAS CREATED WHEN THE REPUBLICANS WERE DRIVING. Don't forget that. We can pick out many pork projects, no doubt about it. But the conservatives offer a smokescreen. They want gov't to become crippled so they get their chance to load up again. Fill the "wealthy's " coffers, that is capitalism as they would have it. They have shown how they really feel about people, they really don't give a crap. Recent statistics show blacks are unemployed much higher than whites, hispanics and asians to name a few. I guess they are just lazy, right? Wrong! They are discriminated against as are the poor and even the middle class. Conservative capitalism is a losing hand for all except the rich. Many in the military won't agree w/this and I understand that. When I was in and getting a regular paycheck, I was removed from some of the problems society faced. I never thought about hurting myself lifting crazy weights or playing sports. I would still draw a paycheck. I always had a job. They wouldn't. They were lucky to receive 60-70% of their normal pay while out on disability or workers compensation. Out in the civilian world, they worry about jobs, medical/dental coverage, life insurance and other daily problems. Both have it tough. I worked my a$$ off and never had a problem paying taxes nor donating to charities such as Navy Relief, United Way or many of the others. Why do those who are well connected, had their careers laid out for them paid for by grants and student loans now have a problem helping those in need? What I find hard to understand is how those in the military are making the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq in the name of democracy when at home, our own are forgotten. How did we arrive here? Don't fall for the smoke and mirrors of the conservative movement. They are the real threat to society. Didn't you just witness it? Don't forget it. If there is any chance to kick start this economy, putting $$$ out into the economy makes the most sense. If you were one of the unemployed worried for your kids or families, you'd understand that. It is time to shut up the conservatives. Just because you worked for everything you have in your life is no reason to accept their theories. I'm pretty sure, somewhere, sometime, if maybe for a moment, you rec'd help from someone. So in review, try to understand this lunacy. The conservatives believe we should be in Iraq in the name of spreading democracy, whether they wanted it or not.......because they (Republicans) care about people. Then why are they against helping those who need help right here in what we call the greatest country in the world? How can you possibly buy into their pork talk and wasteful spending rhetoric? I am NOT a Democrat, I am an Independent thinker of and for America. Shut them up once and for all. They are showing you the true "them" and it's pretty ugly if you ask me. I'll be damned if I ever side with any team that has Rush as a spokesman. Depart the premises now!

Wow Gary, why are you always upset. Liberals won, you should be happy. Towards the end there, you said you are an Independent thinker. You might want to put the word Liberal in between Independent and thinker.
I might be an anomily here because I'm a Hispanic Conservative that likes listening to Rush. If you can tell me something that Rush has said that wasn't true or that he wasn't looking out for the best interest of this country, Then I will change the channel to Air America or another liberal radio station out there if I can find one.

Tell me something Gary, would you rather have someone get up and do something to better his/herself, or have someone just wait for a handout all the time. I understand helping out once maybe twice, but not on a monthly basis.

I grew up very poor in Starr County Texas, (one of the poorest counties in the US), my dad never accepted welfare or any handouts. He worked in the fields and told us to go to school so we didn't have to work like he did. I guess you can say I've been in some of these people's shoes that are suffering. I believe people need to get out of the "Handout mentality" or they will get used to it and will never want to improve their lives. Why would they, when the government is giving them a check. Especially if they have plenty of kids. Did you know that in my home town, an illegal with 4 or 5 kids can get an apartment and a check for $3500 a month. Who would want to go to work if they can get that every month?

Towards the beginning of your quote you mentioned that the conservative movement was based on racism. Was it not Obama that pulled the race card on McCain during the elections. Saying that "They will tell you that I (Obama) looks different or doesn't look like the guy on the dollar bill."

Jessie Ventura is an Independent, You my friend are a Liberal thinker. You have to be, as much as you hate conservatives.

I know what conservatism is and I have an idea where your going with this. Conservatives believe in a free market system with little gov't intervention. Their belief is that people will achieve prosperity by being left to their own devices. There. Let me see, 1 + 1 = 2. Two sentences. There. And it sounds not too bad, right? What is so harmful about that? Right?....Plenty. In a perfect world they don't sound too bad. Add in wildcards such as favoritism/nepotism (which exists and it exists bigtime) and racism, which some posters say doesn't exist, which it does, and you can see we have a kink in the link. Observe. With NO gov't intervention, we leave people alone to run the market, little if any regulation. What happens when you do this is H-1B visas are allowed into the country lowering wages and taking some control away from the workforce. More illegals arrive, further driving down wages. Family and friends thrive in this environment. Man do they thrive. There's no one checking ID's at the door. Paaaarrrrrrrrrtay! Nice salaries and bonuses and fat pensions. Oh, here comes Leroy. We'll let him in so he thinks he's one of us. We'll give him a janitor position with a neat title. Everybody make sure you go over once and greet the new hire. Now, let's find us some lobbyists to hook us up. Oh no, crap, another Leroy at the door. Find him a clerks job or something. Now, I going to send my nephew over, he's not too bright .........OH, and he has a record, he's looking for a decent job. Take care of him, he's a good kid. Man, this is the life. No regulation, no rules, nothin. Who let the gays in? We are the family values party, remember? By the way, where is my mistress? (Could that be Newt?) Darn, here comes the auditor. Get our contacts at city hall to take care of this jerk.......etc, etc. Leave people alone in this setup, this country will have problems. The basic premise sounds good. But you forgot the human element left alone in this environment w/out a system of checks and balance will be tempted by those wild cards. That is why I deviate from the norm of what is a conservative. It is a person of interest. May be friendly or hostile, regardless, be afraid. Be very afraid.

Clep101. I confused you w/someone else. The CSA stands for Confederate States of America. I believe someone from Arkansas wrote that before, I mistakenly thought you wrote that. He was misguided in a different way. I'm done posting here. I hope you guys enjoyed class. Hopefully, you've gained insight into capitalism, free market system and leaving people to their own devices. You can't mix carbon and money without guidance and regulation. We know it doesn't work, except for the wealthy and slick. Lack of ethics confuses theory. It's the intangibles that a purist leaves out that changes the desired results. As I've stated before, beware of the crocodile smile. A toast to quite possibly the end of conservatism in America.
