Ashworth Degree Plan Wiggle Room?
#1
They won't give me any answers until I give my credit card number and send my son's transcripts, so I'm wondering if anyone here might happen to have any knowledge or experience which might be helpful here.

My son has decided on getting his AS at Ashworth and then completing his BS at WGU. The thing is, he is only 6 credits short of what he needs for his Ashworth AS. Since they require you to complete 25% of your degree there, do you think he might be able to take 3 upper level courses there in his one semester, so that he could fill some additional WGU credits in the process of completing his AS? It wouldn't make sense for them to make him re-do lower level courses, but I have no idea what to expect. Just trying to get all his ducks in a row because by the end of November he'll be done with his Straighterline courses and be ready to move forward and get the AS pretty quickly.

I don't believe their system will let you choose UL courses when completing an AS. I tried doing that toward the BS and it only gave me LL under the LL elective requirement. You may, no guarantees petition them afterwards but no guarantee.

Well that's a shame, as that would make it a lot easier for my son to complete WGU in only one term. I think he can do it anyway, but that would have really been nice. He may re-think the AS altogether, then.

It occurred to me that he actually already has 2 lower level electives which could satisfy the elective requirements for the AS - so now it's just a matter, I suppose, of whether they will allow him to take credits he doesn't actually need for his AS in order to satisfy the requirement of taking 15 credit hours with them to earn a degree. I'm going to call again tomorrow and see if I can get an answer.

They don't allow credits in excess. So basically they may not count all transfer credits toward the degree. Just what he needs in order to complete it.

so when you call ask about the UL courses and an override.

Wow - terribly disappointing, but I should have expected as much. Makes no sense from their standpoint as it would be an easy semester's tuition - but if they can't accomodate that request, he'll just pass on Ashworth altogether and take the extra courses at SL.
