TESU BA.CS , how to graduate fast ?
#11
I agree, your best bet is to max the trifecta of certs, degree, experience and have a balance mix/match of them... You're about 15 years younger than me, you have a bit of experience at that age, you just need to add to it some certs plus the TESU BACS degree. I would even recommend a secondary BSBA CIS option if you want to leverage a business degree out of that as well, so you'll be well versed in Business plus CS/IT. Follow the WIKI plans from both LevelUP and Rachel83AZ, get the Coursera, TEEX, cheapies/freebies, and work on Sophia.org for the lower level, Study.com for the upper level, finally finishing with the TESU 15 residency credits.

TESU is generally for folks who are already in the industry and need that degree for career advancement, internship opportunities for newbie students are not a priority as TESU is not even on Handshake. Plus the CS market had become so saturated. The son of my co-worker studies CS at Texas A&M couldn't even land an internship last summer after about 50 applications.

TESU BACS is a great first step but I think you need a MSCS or MSIT with industry certifications to make you more competitive in this cooling CS job market. All in all 6-12 months for TESU and 2-2.5 years for a MSCS or MSIT adding up to about 3 years. Hopefully hiring would pick back up then.

Thank you so much for your response. I'm definitely going to be pursing a master's degree at gerogia tech online after this. Meanwhile, I just need a degree to get better paying job now ( unrelated ). I'm also considering getting into trading, and any CS degree will do. Passing the interview is the most difficult part. But as you said a more realistic timeline is probably going to be for me somewhere in between ~2 years/2.5 years.

thank you for the reply !
May i ask you relink me those in here? I seem to find couple links, not sure the most updated resource here.
I would most certainly love getting BSBA CIS ( on top of BACS ) if you think those will be very complimentary and just offer wider range of jobs.
As far as internship goes, when do you think is the sweet spot to apply for those ? ( maybe spread 15 credits across 2 semesters and squeeze the internship in between ? )

imo I think you should consider applying for internship the first summer into your MSCS or MSIT program unless you got some industry connections already

The WIKI link is within my signature, you should review the TESU one here: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Category:TESU

I also think you should get the degree first and then look into the internships right when you submit your graduation... You still need to wait for graduation audit to happen, you'll have at least 2 months to look for internships if not jobs, I would look at jobs at the same time even...
