Two useful add-ons for Firefox are Adblock Plus and Leechblock. With Adblock Plus, there are simply no more ads. And for the times I need to work online but keep getting "distracted" by the vastness of the intertubes, I turn on Leechblock.

I had Adblock Plus installed until I had to wipe my hard drive clean.
