Best Online Degrees in the Shortest Amount of Time?
#1
In December, I will finish my AS in Bus Admin at Tulsa Community College. I am currently taking a Straighterline College Algebra which I got approval from TCC to do & transfer directly to TCC, although, they told me I was approved for ONLY that course through Straighterline (I'm not sure if they'll give me a grade for it or not). I've been looking at several online bachelor degree programs in Oklahoma (only so far), one in Organizational Leadership and the other in Administrative Leadership. I could do a Business program, but thought there might be an advantage to a degree that was a little different (like the Leadership degrees).

BUT, it will definitely take me 2 years to complete those. I was wondering what online programs that could be done quicker, how much they cost as compared to the state colleges I'm looking at here (which are around $250/hr), if financial aid can be used, and how easy/hard they are???

Ask your TCC adviser if there are any programs in your state which will take your degree as 100% transfer. From that list, determine which can be completed online. That's the way to have the "best" online degree.

As to which major to choose, you never ask the college which major you should choose, always ask someone working in the industry you want to be in! So, which job or career do you hope to be qualified for upon graduation? Even if it's an entry level, be sure to seek out advise from that group. THEY will tell you best what is important and what isn't. LISTEN to them. Just to be clear, you don't ask the college, you ask the industry.

Speed: well, actually the best way to speed up a degree is while completing the 100 and 200 level courses. Almost every 100 and 200 level course has an exam equivalent, which makes it hard now that you're onto the 300 levels. I think that you should take 15 (not 12) credits per term, and take no fewer than 6 credits each summer, and you'll cut 6 months off of your degree. In addition, if your university allows ANY electives below 300 level, or ANY classes below 300 level toward your 2 years, take them now as CLEP if possible. (might not be, too many variables to say for sure, but this isn't a long shot- most colleges do NOT require all 60 credits to come from upper level courses). Those exams can be earned now, while you're waiting for fall semester to start. Knocking out 3 of them (on top of the suggestions above) can shorten your degree further still.

Financial aid can be used for any accredited college.

We are talking about Organizational Leadership/Public Admin in this thread...you might find some ideas on how this would look at one of the Big 3 by reading through it. http://www.degreeforum.net/general-educa...afety.html
MBA, Western Governors University February 2014
BS Charter Oak State College November 2011
AS in EMS August 2010

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

In Oklahoma, ALL Associate degrees from a public college transfer for ALL your gen. ed. to any public college in Oklahoma. The Ok St Regent For Higher Ed states "If you decide to transfer to an Oklahoma public four-year university with an associate in arts or associate in science degree (two-year degrees) from another Oklahoma public college, State Regents' policy guarantees that your associate degree will satisfy all freshman and sophomore general education requirements at the four-year university. " So, I just have to pick a public college in Oklahoma and my AS is a 100% transfer.

I've been trying to get unofficial audit of my transcript by several schools in OK here to see which one is going to use more of my 100 & 200 level courses as electives so I don't have the full 60 to take. I'll have to see what other courses I can knockout. I just finished an accounting class this summer and am in the process of finishing the Straighterline College Algebra, which is taking slightly longer then I had hoped (6-8wks vs 4). So far the University of Oklahoma looks like I'd need 55ish and Rogers State Univ shows 57. I'd still like to get more dropped off that list so since I still have one semester left at TCC, I thought it was a good time to make sure I figure this out.

As for asking the industry - great idea. It never occurred to me. I'm a Mgr of a Health Food Store, but would like to move into a Corp position in this same industry. I definitely will be talking to some people about what degree would get me in the door because I've been hitting a ceiling for a long time (in Mgmt). Any suggestions would be appreciated.
