Hello there,
I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for College Algebra online?
I've taken several classes with Straighterline with ease, but I'm having a lot of difficulty with this college algebra! I'm worried I won't pass the final. I'm really hoping for a place that has the final structured around the previous tests. Straighterline sometimes pulls random questions out of nowhere that are really obscure. I'm not sure what places WGU would accept College Algebra credit from, I know for certain Straighterline and Saylor.
Also, are the finals from Saylor based off of previous coursework and tests? I was thinking about taking separate classes there.
Edit: Thank you for all of your responses and suggestions! I was able to complete it with Straighterline. I had to rush it and barely scraped by!

I think WGU takes any ACE credit, so you're good to go anywhere. Previously I would have suggested ALEKS, but unless and until they renew their ACE-recommendation, you can't use them.

Not Shmoop, due to the not-proctored thing. I can't really imagine many Shmoop classes fitting into a WGU degree plan, though, so it's not a big deal.
Edit: Reading on Reddit, it seems like WGU might accept all ACE credits now. Nice change from earlier, when Shmoop was denied to one or two forum members here.

Yes, Saylor's tests are based off the coursework. The problem with Saylor is that the coursework is often voluminous, disjointed and repetitive. I have no idea what the Algebra course is like. What I would do is finish the SL course. If you fail the course, go over to Saylor.org and try the quizzes and a practice final. If you do well, go ahead and take the final for credit based on the studying you've already done. If you pass, there's your credit. If not, then look for another alternative. There's CLEP and TECEP tests, plus others.

Has any one tried Ed4Credit or Sophia's Algebra?
I've taken a few Sophia courses and I like that the final consists of questions you already answered correctly. The downside is sometimes you have to bounce through different instructors material to find the correct "exact" answer.
I have great difficulty with Algebra and now that Alek's is gone (after I purchased it) I'm not sure what to do. I can do Algebra if the formula is in front of me. I was tempted to try Empire State College's individual studies where you and the instructor determine what materials & coursework is needed. Too bad I can't just complete a work book cover to cover and call it done. I don't know how it would transfer though. This is the only course that I'm stuck on unfortunately.
Sophia - Environmental Science, Intro to Religion
SUNY - ESC -Educational Planning, Business Ethics UL
NFA - Q-118, Q-137 (no ace credit granted)
FEMA - ICS 100b, ICS 100a, IS-546a
2005 - NYS EMT
2004 A.A.S - Business Admin/Information Tech Jamestown Business College
2003 - NYS Basic Firefighter

I'm in the same boat... halfway through SL College Algebra and really struggling with it. I'm using Khan Academy videos & exercises to help with the topics because the SL lessons are not helping me at all. The ebook is torture.
One thing that may help, take a look at the final review. It breaks down the percentage of questions and number of questions by topic. They range anywhere from 3% (2 questions) to 15% (10 questions), so obviously study more on the higher percentage topics. That's my plan.

With the situation ALEKS is facing, the main options are Davar, Saylor, Straighterline, Study.com and so on, even Shmoop would be a good option as they are ACE recommended for credit. I just hope (for the ones who didn't get their ALEKS completed in time) they get renewed and extended, otherwise, there are options still for you to complete the required math courses.

I unfortunately had to rush through my College Algebra class to be able to have it counted for credit with WGU and just went for the final. I got a 100% on all the tests before the final - which means I only needed 25 questions right to pass the class! I ended up with a LOT of content I didn't know on the final, but I did know 25 of the questions for sure. I'm a slow math test taker and I think I had about 30 minutes left when I realized I still had half the test to go, lol.
I did end up passing college algebra! I wish I had more time to prepare for the final though.

Congratulations! I know that has to be a relief. I'm so dreading the final...
