CLEP Scores Change from 20 years to 10
#1
CLEP exams are only available for 10 years now. I don't like this.

Changes are always happening, either way it goes, it might even be a benefit for those who are 'stalling' to complete their degree within 10 years instead of 20 years. So, I think it's their way of saying... get them CLEPs and transfer them into the degree of your choice already...

What happens when someone want's to pursue a second bachelors degree more than 10 years after the CLEP exams used for the first degree?

I don't know of a school that would accept a CLEP exam on another school's transcript as transfer credit.

Someone with a bachelor's degree could end up not meeting gen ed requirements or could be short the minimum 120 hours for a second degree.

And my burning question is why does the College Board treat AP exam scores differently?

This could potentially be a problem even with some graduate degrees. If the graduate program wants original transcripts for everything, including CLEP, but you graduated with your BA 12 years ago... now what? Take the CLEP again? Take a "real" class elsewhere?

Keep in mind that the change won't start potentially negatively impacting folks until 2032. If you took the test before July 2022, your scores are still available for 20 years.

For those going for a Masters, as long as you have the Bachelors conferred and also transcripts showing what classes have been completed or transferred in, that should be sufficient as they've granted you the 'main' component for entry into the Masters. You may get pushback on transcripts, but when you indicate what is happening for those in 2024 and beyond, they'll understand, for those who have CLEP's prior, you should be fine (unless you're outside 20 years, you repeat what I mentioned above).

To CLEP or not to CLEP: that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous changes,
Or to rise up against this and find another source of credits.
