I am now preparing once again to take the English COMP with essay exam. I failed it 6 months ago "48". My down fall is that I am a slow reader. I ran out of time for the Multiple Choice questions. Hoping that some one can give some good advice on this one. I really need to pass it this time...Only 2 classes left.
I think that I am having trouble seeing the errors right away in the questions. I keep reading the question over and over before I answer it. I hope someone can help me with this

Here are 2 tips that helped me pass.
1. I think it is better to carefully read the questions you can, and then get 100% of them correct. Really, just read slowly and carefully. No reason to waste several minutes reading a passage only to end up missing it anyway!! That's a waste of time and it won't result in a point. So, just be sure of your answer, even if it takes longer, because that will earn you a point. In the last few minutes, you'll just have to just click answers to be sure you have no blanks before you run out of time. I like choosing "B" lol.
2. You'll get a new set of time for your essay, and I suggest writing a standard 5 paragraph -flawless- essay. 5 sentences per paragraphs, proper grammar, good spelling, an intro paragraph, 3 body paragraphs, then a closing paragraph that pulls in bits from your 3 body paragraphs. They are 50%/50% so if you score very high on the essay, you buy a little extra room on the questions. Re-write the essay they asked you the first time for practice.
I had a heck of a time (still do) with the questions that give you a sentence (Anna bought a new pencil collection from the pencil shop.) and then require you to use the word they give as a way to rewrite the sentence. (start with the word "The" and revise the sentence into one of the following choices) I don't know why, but my brain just doesn't do them well. So, since I knew I would miss most of them (I had missed almost all of them on each of my Peterson's) I didn't really try to get them correct. I knew I could eat big chunks of time and still possibly miss them, so- using the 2 suggestions I just gave you, I passed with a 68. Just focus on what you DO do well! Like I tell my son, only miss the ones you don't know. GOOD LUCK!!
