COSC Guidance
#1
COSC won't let my Daughter enroll until June, as she will be 16. She is still working towards her business degree.

They have this listed for UL:

• Small Business
• Project Management
• Human Resources
• Organizational Management
• General Business (developed with Academic Advisor)

Can someone tell me if the following will count towards upper level for the areas above?

Project Management- UEXCEL Starts Feb 29 - April 24
Human Resources - UEXCEl starts Feb 29-April 24

If they do, does anyone know if I can tell me the cost of the above or if they know where I can find for less?

I am also looking for these in UL :

Small Business
Organizational Management

Shes in the process of studying for Management Information
Systems. Should be taking on Feb 17.

Garsh I hope that we are on the correct track for her business degree.

TIA

You don't have to take each of these courses: Small Business, Project Management, Human Resources, Organizational Management, General Business. These are the concentrations for the Business Administration major. So you would chose only one category listed and take 9 upper level credits in one of those categories. So for the UEXCEL courses you have listed, Human Resource Management would give 3 UL credits in the Human Resources Concentration or would give 3 credits under General Business. Is there a UEXCEL for Project Management? For some reason I am not seeing it listed.

I hope that made sense.

Topdog- thank you for your input. Here is the link for Project Management: http://www.excelsior.edu/ecapps/CourseSe...Detail.jsf

So, if I understand correctly, she has to narrow down what she wants to study. I am so confused. Did you see the classes she already has? She is now trying to get UL courses. She took Business ethics & Society DSST 3, which is Upper Level.

Can you give me guidance on which direction to go? She just wants a business degree.

Sophia has a Project Management course for $329 (there is no UExcel PM exam - but you can take a course at EC for $1470).

If your daughter wants a business degree, I would work with COSC to map out a plan in general business. Not sure which courses they allow for that, but it will be the easiest to fulfill (for instance, finding additional UL Project Management courses will be quite a challenge if you're not willing to spend many thousands of dollars). Here's where I just found that info: http://www.charteroak.edu/business-admin...ochure.pdf

Then she should choose the General Business option. It will be by far the easiest. She will need nine UL general business credits. She already has 3 with the Business Ethics DSST. (This counts as a General Business UL elective and a General Education ethics requirement.) I'll look at what courses she has already taken and try to send you a PM a little later this morning.

I sent you a PM with this information, but I thought I would include it here also, in case it can help someone else. Disclaimer: as far as I know, this information is currently correct.

I don't think the Saylor course that you referenced earns college credit through ACE or NCCRS. Here are those courses: Earn College Credit | Saylor Academy

COSC Business Requirements with General Business Concentration: from Business Administration - Charter Oak State College Catalog

Prerequisites
•Macroeconomics: Completed
•Microeconomics: Completed
•Business Statistics: Needed, Suggestion: Straighterline Business Statistics

Financial Accounting 3cr: Assuming the Accounting 1 and 2 were taken at Straighterline, these will meet this requirement
Managerial Accounting 3cr: Needed, Suggestion: Straighterline, Penn Foster, or UEXCEL
Business Law 3cr: Needed, Suggestion: CLEP, Penn Foster, or Straighterline
Principles of Management 3cr : Completed
Management Information Systems 3cr: Planned, MIS DSST
Principles of Marketing 3cr: Needed, Suggestion: CLEP, Saylor
Finance Management 3cr: Needed, Suggestion: Penn Foster or Principles of Finance DSST (NOT Personal Finance)
Organizational Behavior 3cr: Needed, Suggestion: UEXCEL because this will give UL credit.
Capstone: Needed, COSC course
General Business: 9 UL Credits: Business Ethics DSST (3 UL), need 2 more UL courses here.

Suggestions: Upper Level Courses in Business, Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management, or Marketing. Check this list for UEXCEL and TECEP exams: http://www.charteroak.edu/exams/exams-master-list.pdf.

Otherwise Penn Foster courses that are ACE approved for Upper Level will work here. Check with the COSC registrar first for a particular course to be sure.

The Sophia Project Management also works.

These are my suggestions for the Business requirements only. She will also have to complete General Education credits. It is also important to have 30 total Upper Level Credits. Once the Business requirements are met, these UL credits can be in any subject.
