CS degree from WGU

I don't think I overlooked that at the time, does anyone know if this is a new requirement/ not something they truly require?

I guess if they do need that GPA I need to find a different school to get my CS degree from. If I'm being honest 14 years ago I wasn't the same person and my school work reflects that. I barely graduated.

Here is the full context of WGU policy:

1.    Possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.

2.    Demonstrate readiness through completion of one of the following:

Option 1: Submit transcripts documenting completion of college-level coursework with a minimum of 2.75 GPA or higher, AND successful and verifiable completion of a pre-calculus course from a WGU approved third-party provider with a grade “C” or better.

Option 2: A high school GPA of 3.0, or higher, AND a B grade, or better, in a high school honors, IB, or AP level advanced mathematics course.

What they mean is that they want you to demonstrate your ability to handle college-level coursework especially in an online environment. Submitting your application with either RA (regionally accredited) or ACE (American Council on Education) credits is exactly what they’re looking for.

Many students struggle with math, particularly Calculus. In fact, a significant portion of WGU’s math department is dedicated to helping students get through it. So, it’s a good idea to complete Calculus through Sophia first.

WGU has had issues in the past with students enrolling with zero credits, taking one or two classes, and then dropping out. They’re trying to avoid admitting students who aren’t serious about online college, so showing some completed credits helps prove your commitment.

Thanks for the reply.  So since I have 15 Sophia courses complete (one being calc1), that would override the necessity of a HS GPA? Given that Sophia is pass/fail I didn't think they would count.

Yeah, I figured you might ask that for clarification, so I edited my post above and added it to the end. Lol.

So if you have existing college coursework and have completed Calculus, you're good to go, your high school GPA won't matter.

Basically, review what you need and want... I would decide which would be better, Excelsior, TESU, WGU, UofPeople, UMPI, and whatever else there is, such as SNHU and the Computer Science programs offered anywhere else. The reason is, for the majority of these, you can transfer in the general education and electives, the classes remaining is the major for residency purposes.

A note, WGU is competency based, if you're experienced, you'll most likely be able to finish the degree in 1 term of 6 months, if you're not, it'll get more expensive and take longer. That's the main reason you want to gauge how well you're doing with the alternative credit first, and then decide which of these would fit you better, it boils down to cheap, easy, fast to mix & max the certs, degree, experience...

I would prefer cheap and easy. I did struggle with a handful of the content on Sophia mostly because I am balancing full time employment and not studying enough and to some degree I am just dense/slow learner. I not sure how many of the Sophia courses I have done line up with other colleges but I remember following a guide to make sure these matched WGU. Some of the schools I was interesting in trying like TESU list the curriculum of classes but I don't know how to check what Sophia courses are equivalent. I was considering skilling the Study.com and just jumping into the school of choice because I heard they can be difficult and slow.

on one of my more recent messages, I did include a screenshot of a planner I had made which shows a handful of the courses I have completed if you are interested in using that in feedback.

I thought this was on here somewhere but I wasn't able to find it and second guessed that I had found it on another site. I have been on here in over a year and it seems like a lot has changed. Thank you so much.

I appreciate everyone's help, I would be on the path to a better career without you guys.

Plenty of cheapies and freebies on the posts, threads, WIKI, here's an example or two:
Coursera, I updated a post in regards to their sale for $199/year, you get these: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Coursera
CLEP/MS, Saylor, Sophia.org, Study.com, TEEX, etc: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Fr..._of_Credit
You're using these credit options to get extra certs, credit towards your degree, and to add to your experience.

Since you've already proven you have some technical ability by completing Hack Reactor’s Software Engineering Bootcamp, I’d recommend sticking with WGU for now.

With TESU, you'll need RA (regionally accredited) credits. If you can earn 15 credits at WGU, you’ll have the flexibility to pivot to TESU later if you need to, depending on how far you progress during your first term at WGU.

I would take all the Java stuff together last.

BTW, any feedback on the bootcamp?

What kind of feedback are you interested in about Hack Reactor? My experience with it or its credit equivalency?

Yes, please share your experience and your thoughts on the quality of the instruction. Did you do this online or in person?
