Hi all, I'm enrolling at TESC for the bsast in aviation maintenance technology. I have my A&P license, for which they say I will get 67 credits toward the degree. But the breakdown on their site is confusing. Can anyone tell me what courses I will get credit for? I don't seem to be able to figure it to 67 credits. I'm 46 years old and finally making the commitment to going back to school and could use all the help I can get lol.

My plan is to get a BS degree as soon as possible and this program seems to be my best shot at that goal. Any general opinion on that? I don't know that I'll stay in aviation maintenance but the degree would be a good thing to have, whether I pursue another degree in a different field or not. I live in Florida if that matters.

Likely that they will give you 45 in your major and 15 free electives. I know that's only 60, so the other 7 could go unused (not uncommon). If you have taken general education courses before, those would apply to that section (English, Math, etc) otherwise, you're sitting pretty.
100% of the gen eds can be tested out of cheaply using CLEP/DSST if you choose to. You can, of course, enroll in classes too.
Keep this in mind as you browse here. You'll see people discuss free FEMA credits, but you can't use those because you're likely full in free electives. At this point, you'll want to consider how to meet the requirements for GENERAL EDUCATION (60) and the list at your link outlines those. If you visit the CLEP/DSST links, you can look at the tests in those areas and see if anything jumps out at you as more interesting than another. Anyone here can happily help you match CLEP/DSST exams with gen eds, it's cut and dry. If you need help, just ask!

Thank you for the response, it was very helpful. I didn't know it's possible to test out of all that, not that I'm ready for it yet. Kinda silly for them to award credits I can't use but at least I know why the numbers didn't add up.

Well, it's because you
earned the credit. Keep in mind, many people have credit that never becomes part of a degree. I myself have a one or two or a fifty <cough> . It's possible that the distribution will differ from what I'm estimating, you should find out soon though. Did they tell you they have done or are doing an unofficial evaluation? That's "the" document that outlines exactly what you have and what you need.
I know the idea of testing seems scary. The first test always is. Always remain a bit reverent for the material, and prepare adequately using the best sources. You'll pass if you do that. And mark my words, after you pass your first test, you'll be here shouting "crap! THAT'S all there is to a 100 level college course? Watch out world, I'm on my way, I should have done this years ago." Welcome, your life is about to change!
LOL, and I just realized I sound like an infomercial. I do not work for this forum or IC or anyone, I'm just a person-like you- and it happened for me like it happens for hundreds of people here, and it will happen for you too.

Thanks again. Yes they did an evaluation (back on the 16th and didn't tell me). I found it today on the student services page. You really got me jazzed up on testing out of as much as possible. They are giving me 62 credits towards the degree. You hit it right, 15 free electives, 45 in my major. Also they're giving me 5 credits towards general education electives, so that leaves 4 required.
