Clep Natural Science
#1
I've studying for Clep Natural science since last 3 weeks, postponed the exam twice. Planing to take next week Thursday. Can anyone help me and advice me what should i do extra to pass this exam. I have been studying from Rea Natural science guide. Gave 2 test and scored 59 - exam 1 and 67 exam 2. Still I am not confident about the progress. I have a biology background but bad in chem, physics, astronomy subjects. Kindly advice how to pass this exam.
Thanks

Those are good practice test scores -- have you tried taking the Official CLEP Study Guide Practice test? It may give you a better feel for how much you have retained (a 60% or higher is usually a good sign of being ready to test). The physics was a lot more simple than I was expecting -- a lot of common sense stuff. There weren't a lot of astronomy questions, either. If you are weak in chemistry (as I was), you may want to watch the Khan academy videos for that subject ( Chemistry | Khan Academy ). They also have some videos for astronomy and physics there that might be helpful for you. Check out Free Clep Prep's study guide for this exam ---> Natural Sciences CLEP Free Study Guide! - Free-Clep-Prep.com ; there are some helpful websites linked to that page. Don't forget to study geology in a bit more depth than was in the REA guide -- I wasn't prepared for some of those questions. Smile Also, here's a random page that there was a question on the exam for: List of diseases caused by insects - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia . Wink Good luck on your exam! Big Grin

In essence, this test is 50% Biology, and the other 50% is a myriad of other science topics, in which physics and Chemistry don't take a major stand. If you know Biology really well, and some earth science (i.e. weather, gravity, magnetics, electricity) you should be well prepared. Beleive me, I barely knew anything in Physics or Chemistry, hardly even read over the stuff, and was still able to pass with a 53. I know that sounds a little close for comfort, but consider that I didn't get 59 and 67 on MY REA tests! You sound really prepared.

Thanks so much for the instant replies and for the links. I will deffinitely study those before i go for the exam. I am a forreign trained professional so kind of worried about the exam. I was reading on forums and some of my friends who gave the exam said that the actual exam is bit different and is harder than what we have in REA. Is that true?
Thanks guys for the advice.

Hmm, I don't remember exactly how similar the REA practice tests were to the real thing, but my score on the REA was a 65 and my score on the real exam was a 62, so in that respect, I would say they are comparable. I do remember, however, that the Official CLEP Study Guide practice test was very similar to the real exam, so I would definitely recommend taking that if you could!

I took it when I was 18 and scored a 60, I only spent half an hour on it I think.
I just used the REA book. But I found Biology smart useful (well I read it when i was 16 for my GED) and it primed me well along with REA's book.
