I'm deciding between three degrees, and I'm curious whether you've found
any difference in career prestige between BA and BS degrees?
For context, here's what I'm deciding between:
- Bachelor of Arts Business Administration - Marketing
- Bachelor of Science - Marketing
Bachelor of Science - Business Administration
My thoughts:
- Maybe UMPI's BABA-Marketing because it's got both Business Administration and Marketing in the title, win/win! But maybe Bachelor of Arts isn't competitive in tech markets because technology leans analytical/scientific?
- Maybe WGU's BS-Marketing or their BS-Business Administration, because Bachelor of Science degrees lean technical?
- Maybe BS because I'm in the San Francisco tech market? But maybe no one cares about the designation as much as they care about the degree topic and professional experience.
Would love to hear your thoughts on the difference in career value for a BA vs a BS in tech.

Best of both worlds: You could get the Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration – Marketing and add a minor in Management Information Systems or a second concentration in Project Management and Management Information Systems.

There's no difference in the job marketplace between BSBA or BABA. BS in Marketing is a little more specialized and could help a little if marketing is what you specifically want to work in.

+1, agree with the above posts... Basically, my recommendation is the UMPI BBA Marketing plus PM & IS double concentration, you'll also get the 3-4 classes that will go towards the MAOL in the future. I suggest completing the MAOL after you're done with the BBA, it's now a BBA not a BA or BS, as there really isn't a difference between BA/BS in Business. Example, the BA or BS degrees at TESU, for the general education requirement, the science requirements are the same, and some institutions have schools don't have a BS option for their degrees.

Thank you all so much! I had no idea about the BA / BS difference not being much of a thing now.
I decided to go for UMPI BBA Marketing plus PM & IS double concentration and roll into the MAOL after that!
I haven't figured out my end-to-end course plan yet, but I wanted to get started and make it feel real, so I signed up to Sophia, enrolled in two courses required by UMPI (that are mentioned in the Wiki for this degree), and already got started.
I figure I'll keep pushing through the clearly needed Sophia courses and keep coming here to figure out my course map over time.
This forum is amazing. I've already told my husband about it and he is going to use this more efficient route to his MBA too.
