It's best to have the basics for these new and emerging technologies to keep up with the trends... Depending on the industry or sector you work in, this will be very helpful going forward. Having said that, if you're in a completely different field that doesn't use much computers or newer technology, I'd still get the basics by taking the cheapies or freebies available, for an introduction to see if it is something you're interested in at the very least.
