namwen Wrote:How do you find the registration process?

Registration is a tad cumbersome. Nothing too hard but we had to follow a process in order for my son to do concurrent enrollment with high school. They asked for proof that he qualified for certain courses by doing prerequisites in high school. He had to request a waiver since he didn't show any admission scores. That was much easier than going to take admission tests somewhere.

Are the classes you want to take available?

Everything that we are looking for is there. He is doing some pre-nursing and other courses. He just completed A&P I plus lab with an 87. I preferred that he have a higher score but I am overall pleased.

Are you fully online?

Yes, fully online.

How are the instructors?

His instructor is there for help for the most part. She's a little slow to respond and vague in answering questions. I've become familiar with independent study and DL so this wasn't a shock. I pretty much expected that he would be teaching himself so, it's no sweat for me.

A full review would be most appreciated!

The school works great for our needs. They require 12 credits in-house in order to graduate there. I'm thinking we may apply for full admission and finish out there when my son gets close to graduation. He is taking some PF courses, CLEPs and SL as well. He started in January and looks close to being ready to graduate with an AS in May.

My son was originally supposed top graduate from high school next May but he may be ready to graduate with an AS in the same time period. Whoohoo! :hurray:
Awesome....well done and thanks for the review!
MBA, Western Governors University February 2014
BS Charter Oak State College November 2011
AS in EMS August 2010

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

I have a question. For anyone who took biology I and II at NMJC, did you have any problems with them being listed as biology for non-majors? I think there is a mistake on one of the sections being offered this semester. It has the same course code as the other biology sections, but it says it's for majors and non-majors. I need to do some searching to see how NMJC codes biology for majors.

Usually the two-part general biology with lab (4 cr) is for majors, and the 1 part intro bio with or without lab (3 or 4) is for non-majors.

I'm on their site now, where is the mistake?

EDIT: I found it. I'd call and ask, it does say non majors is in the description. Curious? It's worth a phone call I think.

OK, I found it. They consider BIO134 for science majors and BIO114 for non-science majors (even though it's a 2 part general series with lab) It's tucked into the pre-engineering program course list.

Thank you. I would have gotten to it eventually, but you saved me some work. I have all of these errands to run. Ugh!

I've seen a lot of talk about Clovis Community College. It seems to be a really popular option for credit accumulation. Can someone please tell me why this particular college is more popular than other community colleges that offer online courses?

My 3 oldest children and my wife have completed courses through Clovis Community College. The cost and the ease of admission for high school homeschoolers were factors in the decision.

My wife earned the AA - General Studies from Clovis, transferring in credits from BYU-Idaho and Shippensburg University. She completed 5 classes at Clovis, and the College Mathematics CLEP exam to complete the math requirement.

My children have completed CHEM 113, BIO 113, MATH 098, 107, 110, 111, and CRJU 110. Other than MATH 098, we have had zero issues transferring credit from Clovis to Southern Virginia University, Weber State University, and The University of St. Francis.

We use ALEKS for math now instead of Clovis, but Clovis is still our choice for homeschool science courses for high school.

I know this is a few months old, but Clovis does not accept ACE. I sent my ACE transcript and was told that they do not accept them
