College For America - Competency Based Associate's Degree
#1
Southern New Hampshire University has created an associate's degree that is competency based. The degree consists of 120 competencies that equal 60 semester hours of lower level coursework. The cost for the degree is $2500 per year, and it is self paced (much like WGU). The program has already has its first class of graduates (one of which completed the program in 3 months).

Interesting! I love the exciting innovations that have exploded in education over the past 5-10 years. Amazing!

They don't give a ton of info, but I found this potential barrier "How can one enroll?

The program is offered to students through their employer. A list of employer partners can be found on the “Our Partners” page. Contact info@collegeforamerica.org for additional information on becoming an employer partner"

It does seem like this program is being marketed as a "benefit" for an employer to add to their list. "Hey look, we have discounted education, too!" But I'm quite certain that a prospective student could contact the school and find a way to enroll. Hopefully some prospective student will be willing to research this and report back.

I've tried reaching out to SNHU/College for America to see about my employer becoming a partner. It's nearly impossible to get in touch with anyone. I basically gave up in frustration, and attempting to enroll on your own appears nigh impossible.

I do think the concept is awesome, wish there was someone out there with an "open" version.
MBA, Western Governors University February 2014
BS Charter Oak State College November 2011
AS in EMS August 2010

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.
