Yup, they're a social read sharing platform, basically sharing information that either they've created or partly authorized. This can be anything, the main difference they are with CourseHero is that I've not seen people "share" readings of previous exams and correct answers to those exams... but CourseHero has a whole bunch from many institutions.
Err, I should say co-authored not partly authorized... that didn't make much sense, I blame it on the seasonal allergies medication... Again, scribd is just a platform, I would use them more than CourseHero as that site is more for reviewing test exams and assignment paper submissions.

Some colleges are ridiculous. I was enrolling at a community college at one point and was accused of "cheating". I had taken the placement exam on their computers. When I finished the exam the results printed out on the printer next to me. I picked up the sheet of paper with the results and took it to the front desk. Of course I wanted to see the results personally. The lady at the front desk said that was cheating, and then tried turning me into the dean. So I had a conversation with the dean about self-advocacy. The dean saw my point quickly dropped the case. I mean it's rather ridiculous because they're my test results, and it's not even like I was looking up answers or anything. That's like telling somebody that you created their paper but not letting them see the grade.
In all of my years of undergraduate school never once did I have a good advisor, not even after having the conversation with the dean at that school. This forum has been the best thing ever for me, and I am constantly recommending it to people.

I would note that if the student had gotten the questions from another source, even though he could have compiled the list from his own quizzes, it would have likely counted as cheating. My only surprise was that the prof actually gave the quizzes back so that the student had the questions in the first place. Most times I've seen, lazy professors don't give tests and quizzes back so they can keep using the questions over year after year.
