Hello everyone, thinking about going back to school, I currently have like 60 college credits. Mostly all Gen Ed and Microeconomics and MacroEconomics
what school offers competency-based programs:
- WGU (Western Governor University)
- UW Flexible
- College for America SNHU
- NAU Nothern Arizona University
- Perdue Global
any other I'm missing, which one would you choose? I know in this forum you guys focus on the BIG 3, but any other besides the big 3.

Best might depend on whether cost or time is more important to you now, and also how much you'd like to transfer in.

In addition to those, you can also add Brandman, Capella, and Walden. Though WGU and NAU are generally considered the leaders in competency-based education. I'd probably lean toward one of those two, though ultimately I'd pick the school that makes the most sense for me based on the credits I have and the degree I wanted to pursue.
Keep in mind that while those schools all offer their own competency-based programs, most of the schools limit which degrees are available from their competency-based programs. Some also have a minimum time requirement, so even if you can complete a course faster than the plan, you may still need to wait to complete it officially or wait until you can begin the next course. Doing your due diligence is always a good idea when looking at schools anyway.

Actually, none of the big 3 offer competency-based education options. You can kind of roll-your-own with them since you can transfer up to 114 credits towards a degree at those schools. They also accept at least 90 and up to 114 ACE- and NCCRS-recommended credits. This allows you to complete the bulk of the courses required for a degree on your own schedule using alternative credit providers instead of attending normal classes. However, the 2 required courses are traditional college classes with a 12-15 week term and no acceleration options.

University of Maine at Presque Isle YourPace program has a lot of different options and seems to be very flexible with what credits they take, but not how many.

Depending on what you want to major in, maybe look at CSU Global. I can tell you what the courses are like. I'm enrolled there now. I like that are o midterm or final exams! Yes we write a lot of papers, but I'd rather do that than take exams. I personally feel like I get more out of writing a paper and doing the research verses memorizing a bunch of notecards.
