Credits for Certification at TESC
#1
I currently have a PMP certification from the Project Management Institute. This certification is not on the list for TESC for credits. I don't want to use the PLA through TESC because it's timely and costly. Does anyone know any other options?

I used to attend Kaplan University before enrolling in TESC. I see they do provide credits for my certification. Can I request credit through Kaplan and then transfer the credit into TESC?

you can check the ACE database for any certifications you have. If they are in there, TESC will award credit. Using Your ACE Credit Recommendations

If you're enrolled at TESC, I would suggest asking them directly.

Thanks... I do intend on asking them but was looking for anyone who had prior experience in doing this as I usually get more accurate info from the forum than from advisement.

If the certification is not on TESC's list, the ACE website, or NCCRS website, then TESC is not going to accept it. They stopped evaluating certs from students years ago. They will only evaluate certs and training programs by request from organizations.

Academic Program Reviews

You might want to look at EC or COSC. As far as transferring the PMP credits from Kaplan to TESC, I'm not sure if that will work. If your credits are treated like transfer credits on your Kaplan transcript, then TESC won't treat them as Kaplan credits and automatically transfer them.

I contacted them about it last week and my responses from them were that they do not take the cert.

EC will take it as grad credit. Excelsior College | Other Exam Options
From the EC website. "The Project Management Professional (PMPÂ) certification is assessed for 3 Excelsior graduate level credits. This credit can be uses as an MBA elective, or complete the Project Management requirement in the MBA Technology Management concentration. It can also be used to complete the Project Management requirement in the Bachelor of Professional Studies in Business & Management or the Bachelor of Professional Studies in Technology Management degrees."

I'm the Project Management MAN-435 class right now at TESC. It's not too hard. Decent amount of writing and a good amount of reading in a way over priced book. I think there is a Sophia course available too if you are looking to fill a specific requirement.

Sometimes grad credit can be used to fill undergrad upper level requirements- doesn't hurt to ask.

True enough, with TESC not evaluating the credential and me not looking to change to EC it seemed to be a nonstarter for me.

I included it for the OP or someone else down the road.
