DSST-Public Speaking, info needed!

I was wondering what people who have taken the Public Speaking DANTE have used to study for this test. In over words, should I be scared of this test (with only a high school speech class under my belt) or should I take this with confidence? I will be taking this test either tomorrow or the beginning of next week. Any help would be appreciated!

I decided not to take the Public Speaking test, and took an actual course instead because this is one area where I felt the practice would be beneficial,especially when you get feedback from professors.
The test is split into two sections. The first section is multiple choice and the second is an impromptou speech.
For the speech, you are given 10 minutes to prepare, and then you have so many minutes to give the speech. I don't remember the time limit, but you can't go over, and there is a minimum time required too.
When you give the speech, it is audio only. The recording in then sent in to be graded. The judges can't determine eye contact, posture, or gestures, so your strength may not even be graded.
I was told the topic is normally about current events, so it's better if you're up-to-date on the news.
- Has anybody who has taken the test know the time limit?

the DSST fact sheet gives some limited information. Namely, that the written part is 84 questions and is untimed. It also has several reasons listed for an automatic failure on the spoken part.

What I'm looking for is some additional resources. That could include the name of a text book, a website, etc. This could include info from anyone who didn't take the DANTE but did take a college class on public speaking...

Use the McGraw Hill Art of Public Speaking which you can find here The Art of Public Speaking .
Know Maslow's Hierchy and how this relates to speech, Toulmins Model for argumentative speech and also know how to critique a speech (it would help if the author of the test knew the difference between *critic* and critique).

I would also suggest that you ask how the test site *times* the speech. I took the test today and was able to decipher the wriitten portion. The problem that I encountered was that a wall clock was used to time the speech. Ten minutes goes very quickly when writing an outline on the subject of 12 month schools. I could not focus on the speech and the clock at the same time and was interrupted by the proctor while I was concluding. I thought I had a minute left but evidently I was 5 seconds over. So, if they do not offer a mechanical timer, I would suggest that you offer to bring your own. Oh well, it was an experience!

What is a Public Speaking test? Do they test you on your style or ask you questions on what you would do if X?

Intro to Public Speaking consists of a written exam and a taped impromptu persuasive speech. The written portion covers the material mentioned above and in the second part you will tape the speech. You have 10 minutes to prepare and the speech must be between 3 and 5 minutes. You are provided with the subject of the speech at the start of your 10 minute prep. It is difficult to persuade in 3-5 minutes and I completely lost track of the clock used to time my speech. I expect automatic failure for exceeding the 5 minutes but it was an interesting experience.
