Did I mess up? TESU

Good Afternoon everyone,

I had previously taken only 1 class with LUMERIT(through waldorff university) which was General Psychology. I then saw that lumerit was a rip off and decided to apply to TESU. I was able to get my class transferred over and it counts as PSY-101. 

Flash forward a few months and I didn't take anything else, life got in the way and delayed my learning. Well not anymore. I stumbled on to this forum and it motivated me get going. 

I'm trying to pursue a Bachelors of Science in Cybersecurity. Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity (BSCS1)

Since I know see that I can take a bunch of courses outside of TESU, like the CLEPs for example, for cheap, I want to pursue that course. However, since I already submitted my transcript, did I mess up? Was I supposed to do that PRIOR to submitting my transcript. Keep in mind I didn't enroll or take any classes with TESU I just registered with them.

2nd question - I saw in the general wiki that it mentioned to take some FREE CLASSES first, from the WIKI:

You can complete the following for FREE and it will give you the corresponding credits listed beside it.

Kaplan PLA LRC100 - 3

The Institutes: Ethics 312 - 2

NFA Q118, Q137, Q318 - 3

TEEX Cybersecurity 101, 201, 301 - 6

FEMA PDS Cert, 7 Courses - 7 (only for COSC and a small number of schools)
Other FEMA credits all are free - Again only usable at COSC and a limited number of schools

Is there specific site I should use for this? Do these all transfer to TESU?

The Kaplan course and the 3 NFA courses are no longer ace approved.

The fema courses are not accepted at TESU.

The 3 TEEX courses and the ethics course are all still available but are currently set to expire on 1/31/2019 so hopefully on those fast! Especially the ethics course, that can be knocked out pretty quick.

There's also 2 free Sophia courses.

You're reading the outdated Beginners Guide I created two and a half years ago. The free courses are in my signature and it directs you the Wiki which is always updated - those are the ones to start with first to get you "familiar with online learning - not proctored".

An FYI, the cheapest BS Cybersecurity degree is not at the Big 3, it's with WGU. So, you can get as much Gen Ed as you can and transfer them to WGU unless you would like to complete it at the Big 3, there are many courses that can't be test-out of.

You haven't messed anything up. It doesn't matter when or how often you send transcripts to TESU. Your application is good for a year. You either need to register for a course to become enrolled before the year is up, or you have to reapply to TESU, which will update your catalog to the current year.

I was considering WGU also, but the pricing model i dont know if it would help me out. I'm saying that because its about 3k every 6 months, but honestly I dont know if I"m going to have enough time to cram a bunch of courses in 6 months because of work. Thats why I rather do something that you just pay per course. Might be more expensive but at least I wont overpay because of lack of time I have to focus on the material. Does that make sense? Unless WGU has another pay method that I'm not aware of.

I would do the "Big 3" Model but with a WGU degree in mind. So, figure out which of the Big 3 you'd get your Cybersecurity degree from if not WGU, then plan your Gen Eds and some core courses that can be done via alternative methods that will work for BOTH degrees. Then, once you've completed maybe 60cr, you'll be able to plan better. If you're going through your courses pretty quickly, and think that you can complete the rest of the WGU degree in 1-2 terms, go for it. If you are going slowly and don't think you can commit, then continue on your path with one of the Big 3.

Just an FYI, I think the TESU Cybersecurity degree is going to be very expensive, and you'd be better off at WGU even if it takes you 3 terms. The only way to keep the cost down at TESU is to do the Comprehensive plan which is $6300 for a year and 36cr - so if you're hard-pressed to do the WGU degree, you'll have the same problems at TESU. If you're going to do 1 course at a time, then TESU is going to get mighty expensive real quick ($1100/course x 11 courses = $12k just for the capstone + about 10 courses that you can't get inexpensively). WGU would be $3520/term, so you wouldn't be over the cost of TESU until you were into your 4th term.

Charter Oak has a cost similar to TESU - about 9 courses included the cornerstone and capstone at $408/cr = $11k. Excelsior is going to be even more, with the added complication of taking Calc I & II, and Discrete Math.

Thank you for your help and insight with both pricing models. I guess then WGU makes more sense. 

First things first I want to get those other credits first. I'm trying to figure out whats the best way to do everything online. I heard that CLEP courses or the tests can only be done at a test site. Thats why now i'm looking at Saylor or Straighterline, which I think is all online based. I'm just trying to see what would be the cheapest way to accomplish this.

Just keep your courses with ACE credits, as WGU does not take NCCRS (but the Big 3 do, including TESU).  You won't be in short supply of ACE options, as even CLEP falls under ACE.

Personally, I recommend study.com but a lot of people also recommend straighterline. Just keep in mind that a few study.com courses have NCCRS approval but not ACE, so double check the ACE site.
