Do Excelsior students qualify to buy student software?
#1
I'm a new Excelsior enrollee. I'm afraid to walk into a local college bookstore and try to buy software with an ID that doesn't even have my name or ID number, let alone a picture, on it. I also note that legitimate online stores require either online validation (which Excelsior apparently doesn't do) or mailing in a copy of a student ID -- which, again, doesn't have anything on it that identifies me. The Excelsior online store doesn't sell software.

Has anyone successfully purchased student versions of software with an Excelsior ID?

I have not, but do you have children in school (any age)? If so, I believe there's an on-line option. I did it but don't recall the details at the moment.

Fantastic question! I decided to scope it out and the first site i visted (campustech.com) says that we would have to e-mail or fax in a government id as well as a "Letter from teacher or school on accredited school letterhead verifying CURRENT enrollment, or Copy of CURRENT class schedule, or Copy of receipt showing payment for CURRENT semester." Sounds like a pain, but not unreasonable.

Now that I'm thinking about it, has anyone successfully obtained a really good discount on anything else with an Excelsior id?

YES!!!!

I purchased expensive Adobe graphics software at the academic price (70-80% off) with just a signed and scanned Excelsior ID. In my case, after placing my order, I merely attached the scanned document along with a copy of my current unofficial transcript (which has student ID # and Excelsior info on it) and sent it to the verification email address they provided. There was nothing more needed and they were able to overnight the product with no delay. The company I ordered from was Educational Software: Academic Discount Software, Student Discount Software, Childrens Educational Software, Educational Discount Software at CCV Software

In the past I've ordered from both Academic Superstore and Campus Tech with my son's College I.D.

Thanks, Geezer! It's Adobe software I want, too -- Acrobat in my case. I've been slavering over it for years but have been too stingy to part with the $500. $150 or so, I can do.

Barcotta: No kids in school for me. If I still had 'em, I wouldn't be able to afford to resume my own education! Wink
