You will take an assessment and if you already know certain things, you won't see them again. ALEKS is also a little bit cheaper, but do be prepared. You really have to learn well with ALEKS. I liked it and it gave me a lot more confidence in math, but in the end, I got a little bored and used the skills I gained in ALEKS to go take the math CLEP.
Ok so for Math based stuff ALEKS is a go? What about InstantCert?

Read the links that I posted. It tells you the process.
Oh no problem! It won't allow me to register...so I am guessing I need to sign up with ALEKS before I do so...?

With IC, sometimes the cards are enough, other times, they let you know that you need to do a little work. For example, if you see an IC card telling you about a certain concept, and you don't already know it or can't learn it just from reading the card, then you need to go watch a youtube lecture or read more about it online.
ALEKS can be a standalone math program and many people use it just to better learn math, while there's no real reason to use IC if you're not specifically studying for a test.
Hope that helps and of course, it's just my opinion.
Ok I see what you mean! I think I am going to stick with ALEKS and knock out as MANY possible classes with it, as it's $20 a month and SERIOUSLY...who in the WORLD can beat that?! You earn a credit for everything you complete and that would put me one step closer to having my Bachelors. I'm actually amazed that I'm just finding out about all of this for the first time.
Straighterline is another SUPER cheap alternative to earning credits. When you do the math on it, it could potential be less than $35 a credit, depending on how you look at it (taking 3 courses a month would average it out really low). It's too bad ALEKS doesn't have a huge variety of tests to take. I'm floored that it's just $20/month with no books needed.

You could probably do way more than 3 courses a month if you really wanted... I finished SL accounting II in 2 nights.

So, to pass my Math CLEP, I did a few weeks of ALEKS on and off. Then, when I felt like I had brushed up on very old algebra skills, then I used the IC cards to focus specifically on the areas that were most likely to be on the test. ALEKS Algebra and CLEP mathematics are pretty different, so for the math CLEP, IC is a better prep. However, IC (for me) needed to be supplemented with some youtube lectures on a few concepts that I didn't understand.
I hope that makes sense

I hope that makes sense It's making sense and all coming together! Thanks. It seems the two can supplement each other and it would be in my best interest to pay the $20/month for access to each one. :o

Click the Blue link on the bottom left to create an account, then it wants you to enter your last name and SSN. It will say "record not found" or something like that. Click the "continue" button and it will allow you to register. It will bring you to a full page to enter your name, SSN, DOB, email, etc.
Hope this helps.
cookderosa Wrote:ACE and ALEKS are 2 separate companies. First, create a user account with ACE. If you are having trouble with that, you'll need to contact ACE tech support.
Second, once you have an ACE account, you'll be able to add any ACE-evaluated credits to it (ALEKS or other).
When you have taken an ALEKS assessment and scored 70% or higher, log out and log into your ACE account. In ACE, there is a tab or button that allows you to add classes to the transcript. You'll do that per the instructions on the screen. That's it. ACE does the rest. They'll contact ALEKS and confirm your assessment score.
DON'T DELETE your ALEKS account until the process is complete or you lose everything! It can take a couple days for your ACE transcript to be updated/complete, so just be patient.
For Straighterline, TESC is a partner school, so I believe you contact Straighterline to send scores to TESC. Also, you should look at the syllabus and order the textbook for the course. You need the book to start your class.

You're awesome Pinkie! Going to put all of that into motion this week. I have 4 interviews! Can you believe it? Not sure what I will tell my current employer, but I have a lot of work/academic stuff to get on top of. Your responses have been great.

So you study and take the ALEK test completely online?
Sounds too easy!
Edit. Excuse my ignorance, another thread has enlightened me.
