Does ALEKS actually help you earn credits or is more of a tool (tutor)?

I must say that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Aleks. It allowed me to get 15 credits towards my BS @ TESC within 2 weeks. I was skeptical about taking the dive and I'm glad I did. Math is definitely NOT my strongsuit but they have examples for you to learn from and it actually improved my understanding of Algebra, while gaining college credit.

I'm currently in the process of registering for SL's intro to Biology and Penn Foster's Terrorism course as it will transfer to my BSHSEP degree. I should be done with these by the end of the month and will then be only 18 credits away from graduating, which I predict will be in October / November of this year.

Im a newbie in regards to quick credits. When i say that I mean cleps, dsst, alek, etc. I didnt know that all these options were available to shorten my time in school. I really wish I would of know earlier. Anyway my question to everyone is which company should I go through to gain credits. My end goal is to get a degree in Occupational Therapy. Right now I need to take A & P with lab I/II, College Algebra, Medical Terminology, Humanities, Psych intro. And eventually the OT course. I would like to get alot of this done before the end of the year. I can save alot of money. Oh fyi, I have taken that math class 2x and did not pass. So I need a easy breezy course.

Thank you for all the information that you can provide. I really have no idea where to start. HELP PLEASE!!!

Hi and Welcome to the forum.

For A&P w/lab you can use Straighterline, you can also do Med. Term Intro to Psych. a humanities course and Algebra through them. For Algebra you can also use ALEKS it is a matter of taste which is better.
For Intro to Psych. I recommend the CLEP, same with Humanities ( if it can be any Humanities there are a wide selection of CLEP or Dantes/DSST). There is also a CLEP College Algebra.

You don't say what school you are going to, you would have to check the CLEP or DSST acceptance policy. Also Straighterline and Aleks usually are put on an ACE transcript you need to see if your school wouls accept tem.

I just came across this thread after slacking for a long time from the forum. Anyways, my question is do these straigterline and aleks courses only give credit at certain schools? the big 3 only? Have you found a limit on the amount one will take? such as FEMA they say TESC will take up to 25 or so.

Thanks

Straighterline and ALEKS courses that have been evaluated by ACE and recommended for credit have been recognized at other institutions besides the big 3. However, it is completely up to the discretion of each institution to accept ACE credit recommendations, as well as how many ACE credit recommendations are accepted. There are limits on accepted ACE credits at the big 3 and you can search the forums to determine what those limits are.

I would strong recommended contacting whatever instituition you are interested in attending to determine if they will accept ACE credit, as well as their limit on ACE recommended credits.

How in the world does one get 15 credits via ALEKS? I was told there are a max of 9 math credits one can get.

It depends on what school you are attending

Max is 12 for EC BS in IT. They will accept (this is for IT degrees, others may be different) up to 9 credits below the level of calculus (Beginning/Intermediate/College Algebra = 9 credits). Stats does not count towards that limit, so you can do one of the stats classes (they are all considered equal to EC). So there's 12... this is what I'm doing right now (Business Stats done, Beginning Algebra done and awaiting confirmation).

Each school is different though, so have to talk to yours and find out. I heard one school wouldn't take Beginning Algebra as it was considered remedial level to them.
