Does COSC except Aleks
#1
I have a quick question that I am hoping that someone here might have the answer for it. Does COSC take any of the Aleks ACE reviewed courses?

Hi Alleycat,

This question has been partly answered in the ALEKS megathread - the short answer is yes.

Doing a google search of the Instacert site with +cosc +aleks to find the information from the thread, thatbrian received confirmation from COSC back in June of last year.

So COSC do not accept ALEK-001 and ALEK-002, Beginning and Intermediate Algebra. COSC does accept ALEK-003, College Algebra.

So, COSC probably also accepts the Trigonometry and Precalculus courses, too. This is presuming COSC equates them to CLEP courses and standard college courses in general. COSC also probably accepts at least one of the statistics courses, too. This is in line with EC's attitude to ALEKS (College Algebra, Trigonometry, Precalculus plus one stats course) although I think we have one member who had more than one stats course added to their EC transcript but are waiting for their final degree evaluation to see if it will be considered duplicate. TESC, at least at this time, seem to be awarding the most credit for ALEKS courses.

Hope this helps you.

The restriction has nothing to do with ALEKS, it would be the same from other sources. Taken from COSC's 08-09 Catalog pg 41:

Distributive requirements General education:

Mathematics.................................................................3 cr
Students will have an understanding of mathematics beyond the entry-level requirements for college.
Examples: College-level algebra or higher.

Here's the math courses order:
1. Beginning Algebra ALEK-0001
2. Intermediate Algebra ALEK-0002
3. College Algebra ALEK-0003
4. College Algebra with Trigonometry ALEK-0004
5. PreCalculus ALEK-0005
6. Trigonometry ALEK-0006
7. Introduction to Statistics ALEK-0007
8. Business Statistics ALEK-0008
9. Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences ALEK-0009

Hi Jonasling,

I'm not sure what you mean in your post? I was extremely satisfied with ALEKS.

I was trying to make the point that while COSC will accept College Algebra and up, TESC will accept Beginning Algebra as both credit and to satisfy the mathematics requirement.

In addition for TESC, other ALEKS courses may be used as free electives.

Sorry, I'm not sure what the thrust of your post is? Smile

I was trying to address this and provide a reason why:

Quote:So COSC do not accept ALEK-001 and ALEK-002, Beginning and Intermediate Algebra. COSC does accept ALEK-003, College Algebra.

So, COSC probably also accepts the Trigonometry and Precalculus courses, too. This is presuming COSC equates them to CLEP courses and standard college courses in general.

Algebra and up is what I was looking for. Sorry I did not write that earlier. Thank you for all your help!
