Westminster College (UT). I got excited for a minute when I thought my original school, Westminster College (PA), was trying something innovative. Guess not.

Some people feel better in self-paced programs rather than high-stakes testing. Also, these competency-based programs tend to be cheap and qualify for financial aid after they go through the approval process. Someone might not have the money to pay for Straighterline courses and tests. Additionally, there are competency-based programs for majors that one can not test out of.

This is exciting news. I personally feel that competency based education is the future of education. I saw that Davenport University was just launching an competency based MBA program. I believe it was $4000 a semester and did not need a GMAT. They were vague on the prereqs but the "courses" look real world and interesting. Glad to see schools embracing a new model that actually incorporates skills versus check boxes.

Yeah, I didn't think this would catch on with many traditional universities and community colleges, but it looks like the new trend. This is more of a revolution in education than that whole overblown MOOC thing.
