EUCLID University?
#11
Assuming for a moment that it is real, but possibly not established enough for everyone's liking...
There were two flags for me. Call them orange if not red...

1) If the UN really operates the school, I figured it would be based either out of NYC where the headquarters is, or in Vienna where the backup site is located, or barring that in Nairobi Kenya, where the new UN Africa HQ is going up.

2) If the UN really operates the school, wouldn't they advertise the hell out of it, and by extension, wouldn't it be considered one of the best in the world... at least by a certain category of politicians?

Well Euclid University does not claim to be run by UN. The legal base seems to be an intergovrnmental Meomrandum and contract, which is registered with the UN. You can find it here: https://treaties.un.org/doc/Publication/...-49007.pdf

Euclid gives this info freely, so there is no red flag for me here: https://www.euclid.int/legal.asp
So Euclid seems to be a legit University - in the countries participating! But of course that doesn't tell anything about recognicion in other countries. That would make me think twice before persuing a degree there.

That can be said about almost every foreign school. There is no guarantee an FCE is going to evaluate a foreign degree to U.S. standards no matter where you get it from with the exception of maybe Oxford or Cambridge. And even then, with some of the foolishness I've seen from evaluators you still might run into problems.

The UN does not run it; it is run by a group of people on behalf of 11 small countries that signed a treaty. For all I know, if you're a government employee in say Burundi, Euclid degree may be prestigious. Actually, if we knew more about how this school is perceived in those countries, it would shed a light on its value as a degree source.

Well no you can't be certain what some Evaluators will do. But there is Anabin in Germany. A government-run database on evaluated foreign degrees and universitys. If you find the school in that base as H+ (fully accrediated) you should have no problem in any EU-Memberstate with a degree from that school.
Sadly EUCLID doesn't seem to be in that database.

True. However, there is more confidence in degrees from countries with established educational systems, as opposed to places like CAR. Another potential strike is when a school from one country mysteriously gets accreditation in another; in addition to St. Regis, there is a new crop of mystery schools with accreditation from Kyrgyzstan. I'd avoid those. Another example is all the private colleges accredited in Malta; Woolf would be one example. Those degrees are, IMO, recognized, but not 100% bulletproof.  With Euclid, there were some second-hand accounts of people getting favorable FCE reports in US on another forum, but I haven't seen anyone with first-hand account.

I actually know 2 examples of US degrees facing obstacles abroad. One is Ashworth College in Canada. A close friend of mine got a degree in ECE from there, and the local regulator refused to accept it, citing WES Canada report. In that case, we cited their own rules and threatened to sue, so she got her credential; the regulator then promptly changed the rules to explicitly require "regionally accredited" equivalency from WES. Bastards.
Another one was a young man trying to get into a Master's program in Germany with an RA degree. Anabin rejected him because part of his program was at a private, unaccredited hospitality school in Switzerland, and they didn't recognized those credits even though the RA college had articulation agreement. Again, I strongly disagree with this logic, but some official Genosse in Germany wasn't interested in arguing. Again, bastards.

With the US now getting rid of National and Regional accreditation titles, I wonder how that would play out.

I wonder too but won't be surprised it will change nothing. WES is its own obnoxious thing. Also, Ontario Racket College of Early Childhood Educators oversees a profession that pays little and requires a 2-year college diploma, yet somehow has smaller percentage of foreign-trained members than their counterparts for law and medicine. This is in a province with tons of immigrants (majority in Toronto) and shortage of daycare spaces. Miserable bastards.

Greetings to all on the forum,

I rarely post here—I think my last message was many years ago and I had to create a new account. But since someone asked me to reply, I’m happy to provide updates and clarifications as of March 2026 (some interesting developments).

On EUCLID’s "US accreditation:" It is not and has never been a US institution... Therefore, it is not accredited by any CHEA-recognized US agency and does not claim to be (or need to be). EUCLID was not created to serve US students. We usually advise American applicants to explore US options first.
That said, we have enrolled several high-level US students, including a recent associate dean from a major university and the CEO of a major energy company.

Importantly, EUCLID degrees have been evaluated (and still are) by respected NACES-member agencies as equivalent to degrees from US regionally accredited institutions. With NAQAA full accreditation renewed for 2026–2030, we expect these evaluations to continue.

The same holds for ECCTIS (the official UK NARIC body) and Pakistan’s HEC. Recognition varies by country—some do not accept online degrees at all. In Africa, the UNESCO convention supports recognition among signatory states. For example, South Africa’s SAQA has vetted EUCLID for equivalencies.
EUCLID was created to train diplomats and civil servants for its member states and beyond. We have served officials (as students) from Ethiopia (2 ambassadors, 1 minister), Bosnia, Guyana, and even US officials (yes, paid by the US government), as well as organizations like WHO and ECOWAS. There is a new UNESCO Convention on Global Recognition that is gaining traction (and signatories) and that will continue to enhance global recognition for all institutions really (as long as their hold national accreditation).

On UN status: EUCLID does not claim to be a United Nations body (obviously). See our clear statement here: https://www.euclid.int/un-status.asp
No one (except someone on this forum somehow) says that the UN “operates” EUCLID. It is an intergovernmental, treaty-based organization with a university mandate, recognized by the UN as such. As early as 2012, the UN treated such institutions as “accredited” due to their status. EUCLID holds intergovernmental observer status with the UNFCCC (COP) and is the only university with such status at the IPCC. We sent a head of delegation (with full intergovernmental observer credentials + an Oxford graduate and EUCLID professor) to the recent COP in Brazil. The Association of Caribbean States also granted us special “social actor” status after ministerial approval (we are currently doing a project with them).

EUCLID Leadership in 2026:

Secretary-General: Winston Dookeran, former Foreign Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, LSE graduate. Often invited as UN events.
Deputy Secretary-General: Current Executive Director of the World Trade Centers Association and outgoing Vice President of the United Nations Association of New York.
Vice-Chancellor in The Gambia: Prof. Momodou Fanneh, PhD in Economics from Fordham University. He also chairs the Governing Council of the University of The Gambia (appointed by the Minister of Higher Education).
Vice-Chancellor in Bangui: Prof. Abdoulaye Sepou, former Rector of the University of Bangui and active medical specialist in obstetrics.

National Accreditation and Recent Updates:

Gambia: EUCLID holds full NAQAA (http://www.naqaa.gm) license and accreditation there (renewed January 2026 for four years). The Gambian Minister of Higher Education presided over our 2023 graduation ceremony. The Gambia is a terrific country to visit, easy access, very tourist friendly, beautiful beaches, and a model of interfaith harmony. Warm and sunny in November while it is freezing in most of Europe...

In the Central African Republic (our historic HQ): EUCLID has offices on the ENAM campus. It is legally accredited by the CAR government and Ministry of Higher Education. We helped establish the national agency ANAQAES, though it is not yet fully operational—so we primarily rely on NAQAA Gambia.

EUCLID marked 20 years with a graduation ceremony in Bangui on November 6, 2025. President Faustin Touadéra attended with his government, delivered the keynote, and personally handed out the degrees to about 25 graduates from 14 countries (including many senior officials). What other university has a head of state hand out degrees? (OK, the President of Bangladesh does according to AI...) Touadéra—reelected in 2026—is also a mathematician with two PhDs and a former rector. His 1986 math doctorate from the University of Lille is titled “Matrix Cauchy problems with multiple characteristics in C∞ and Sobolev spaces.” You can find details here: https://theses.fr/1986LIL10085. He is one of the brightest and most genuine people I have ever met. (Photo photo below presenting diploma to the Consul-General of Burundi to Morocco).

To clarify: I am not EUCLID’s founder. Prof. Touadéra established it as an extension of the University of Bangui (2005–2008). Governments later transformed it via intergovernmental agreements. My role came through dedication to its vision, some IT expertise, distance education experience, and international networking (and prayer). That drove its technological success 20 years ago. Today, I still serve as international faculty coordinator and oversight council chair. I focus on academic quality, faculty, and AI integration—while generating lots of reports for stakeholders and agencies.
Our research output (e.g., on PubMed) speaks for itself.

The old “double-wide in California” rumor is absurd and was somehow mentioned... With California real estate prices, I almost wish it were true. (I am back in the US by the way (Idaho) and still serving in the Orthodox Church (almost 22 years as an Orthodox priest...))

Thanks to those who share facts over fiction. In the AI era, anyone can verify people and institutions—just ask ChatGPT or Grok or Claude!

I remain confident in EUCLID’s curriculum, AI awareness, textbooks, dedicated faculty, academic paper requirements, and Zoom oral exams. It stands up well against many well-known US and international online programs. After 20 years, my view and to cite dear St Augustine: "causa finita est" - the matter is now well settled...

As a point of information, there actually is a UN University, and it's based in Tokyo. As for advertising it, it wouldn't be a UN sort of club if just anyone could join.

Either way, as Professor Cleenewerck explained, it has nothing to do with EUCLID.
