Easy CLEP Question
#1
I'm enrolled at TESC and am wanting to take some CLEP tests, so I looked on the TESC website and it says a passing score (for most tests) is 50.

What is 50? Is that 50%? 50 out of 100 (minus practice questions)?

I took a few test exams and scored mid 70's, would this be enough to pass the CLEP?

Thank you for time,

Patrick

The CLEP I took yesterday, intro to psych was 95 questions, so a score of 50 is greater than 50%, but just barely. The scores range from 20-80 on this test, even if you got them all right, the top score is 80. You can also get a score of 50 if you get 49 or 48 right I believe.....clep scoring is weird but the study guide has the score interpretation and I think the REA guide has the interpretation also.

It's not a %, it's a scale. The score range is 20 (lowest) to 80 (highest). The % differs on each exam and you'll never know your % because they won't tell you.
Which practice tests are you using? Some are harder than others, the brand and subject you are using might help people make a suggestion.

hilarious I guess the "easy" question isn't as easy as you thought! CLEP/DSST scoring has always been a bit of a mystery to me..

Something Else To Know
[/SIZE]

FACT: The lowest possible score is a 20. The highest possible is an 80.

FACT: Approx. 1/2 the questions on the test must be successfully answered to get a 50, or a pass.

THE HYPOTHESIS: In a 100 question test, such as Sociology and many others, there are only 60 possible points (between 20-80) for 100 questions.

60 points divided by 100 questions = .6pts

If each questions is worth .6 points, 50 correct questions = 50q X .6pts = 30pts

You must add 20 since 0 correct questions = 20pts.

30 points + 20 points = 50 points, or a pass.

Now:If each point in a 100 question test is worth .6 points, 100 questions X .6 points = 60; 60 + 20 = 80.

By this formula, answering 75 questions correctly would translate to a score of 65.

Shoto, you had to go there (the math), I just got a headache trying to work it out.

All I know is that a score of 50-80 gives me a grade of "CR" = Pass
Don't get too wrapped up on this, the grade will end up the same on the transcript. Especially if you're enrolled in TESC.

I agree... It's not like you're trying to get exactly a 50... just answer all the questions you can and get your score. If there's a practice test available for it you should have a rough idea if you're ready to take the test or not. If you get 50% of the questions right and almost every single questions seems to stump you, then maybe you need some more studying.
