Electrical Engineering
#1
Hi,

I could use some help. My husband would like to pursue an Electrical Engineering degree. (not an electrical tech degree) I'm wondering if anyone has done this online, testing out as much as possible. If so, which school did you go through?, where should we start?

Thanks in advance

Pure electrical engineering is going to be extremely difficult to complete online, if not impossible. Even TESU only has Electronic Systems Engineering Technology and Grantham has Electronics Engineering Technology.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

Cool! I didn't realize that was a thing. Looks like it'll cost about $80k total. You can cut down on that somewhat by taking as many courses as are applicable to the degree from their Earned Admissions selection: https://ea.asu.edu/courses/  ASU also accepts up to 60 credits for CLEP and/or DANTES exams: https://catalog.asu.edu/credit_exam

It all depends on what courses he has taken already, if it's from a community college or from a Nationally Accredited or Regionally Accredited institution.  For the cost, price, and speed to finish, I would APUS as they allow up to 75% (for this program, they say it's up to 77% on the web page).  This is for APUS BSEE, I think it's a great program for the ROI/Value: Here's the link: https://www.apu.apus.edu/academic/school...ering.html

This degree requires more credits (128) than the normal 120, so that's why you can bring in more credit.  This degree has 30cr in GE, 74cr in the major, and 18cr in the concentration - so ZERO electives. That really doesn't allow for much leeway in what you bring in.  There are some ways to make this degree cheaper (including 60cr of alternative credit like CLEP and ACE).  But compared to the ASU degree, which is $80k, this one would be $36k if you took every course at APU.  Taking 90cr though other means will definitely save you a boatload, and then it's relatively cheap to finish.

If you can find an inexpensive CC that has a lot of the courses you need (Analog Circuits, Digital Circuits, all of the maths, Physics I & II w/Labs, Bio or Chem w/Lab) and then flesh it out with inexpensive alternative credits for your GE, I think you can probably cut the costs in half.

I found 37cr of Alternative credits + 11cr of RA credits for a total of $2995.  That leaves 80cr ($22,800 if you took those at APU) - some of which you'll be able to find at a CC or cheaper school.

This is another one where you're not going to be able to bring in a ton of credits, because there are no electives, and very specific requirements.  I counted 4 courses you can take through EA/ASU for $425 each, 3 CLEP exams which you can get for free, 1 DSST exam for ~$100, 1 UExcel for $355, and 1 Westcott course for $569.  Total for 30cr is $2724.  BUT, I'm sure if you have access to inexpensive CC credits, then you can get that cost down.  You can also use more expensive (for this forum) but relatively cheap credits (compared to ASU) for some additional courses - even something that costs $1000 is cheaper than the $2000 per course cost at ASU for this program.
