Explicit Adult Content on Instantcert?
#1
So, I went to sign up for Instantcert prior to preparing for my first DSST, and while reading the Terms of Use, bumped into this paragraph:

YOU HEREBY ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE MATERIALS PRESENTED AT AND/OR DOWNLOADABLE FROM THIS SITE INCLUDE EXPLICIT VISUAL, AUDIO, AND/OR TEXTUAL DEPICTIONS OF NUDITY AND HETEROSEXUAL, BI-SEXUAL, GAY, LESBIAN AND/OR TRANSEXUAL SITUATIONS OF A SEXUAL NATURE, THAT YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH MATERIALS OF THIS KIND, AND THAT YOU ARE NOT OFFENDED BY SUCH MATERIALS.

What is this talking about? Is this part of the prep for any of the exams? If so, which ones, so I can avoid them?

Thanks in advance.

I've taken quite a few exams and have looked at the IC study material for even more exams and I have never seen any of this type of content. This may be a standard release statement, or it could be that some of the content such as psychology courses may talk about Freud's theories which are based on sexual development etc. I think it is safe to look around without fear of seeing materials that you find inapropriate. Good luck with your exams and studies and welcome to the board!

I've used this site extensively over several years, including the test prep materials and forum, and I've never seen anything remotely close to that description. If the webmaster chimes in, we will know for sure, but it looks to me like a general disclaimer to cover any potential eventualities--as this forum, for example, allows people to post attachments which, theoretically, could contain anything. I'm sure anything offensive would be immediately removed, but to cover that period of time where it's concievable that something inappropriate gets posted, they have that disclaimer.

Have you ever noticed that almost every manufactured food product is produced in a facility that processes peanuts? I don't believe there is that much peanut processing going on--I think they all say that to cover themselves in the event that a peanut allergic reaction is ever alleged. Same deal.

What is wrong with reading the Terms of Use? Shouldn't we all read the Terms of Use for anything we are about to sign up for?

That's just a generic Terms and Conditions page provided by our credit card processor, who happens to have some adult site clients. Smile

It will be interesting to see if Steve chimes in here - let's keep it going, until he does.

Like the others who have posted so far, I have been in here for about 2 years now and nothing offensive.

BUT -- since some of this deals with medical, health, psychological, etc. - anytime that is involved, there is a possibility that you might be exposed to something but so far it has just been "the facts, only the facts ma'am"....to quote an old TV show.

For example, took a Psych of aging and adulthood and there was a question concerning gays and lesbians - but it related to the raising of children and family construct.

Rest assured, if you see it, you need to know the facts in order to discern the correct question on a test.

I agree. Big Grin I just don't think that there is anything wrong if someone WANTS to read the Terms of Use before they sign up for something. Smile
