Hi,
I could use some help. I am enrolled in the MBA program at WGU with a start date of February 1st! Yes, I am excited!! My question centers around early access. I know that several students have completed a majority of the coursework prior to their start date. I have access to my courses now, but when I click on a course a pop-up asks if I would like to "Activate" the course now. Can someone please explain this process to me? Is there a penalty for early access? I would like to get a head start. Hoping to complete everything within 6 months.
Any feedback and/or tips on WGUs MBA program is appreciated.

All activating a course does is lock it in. If any course changes are made you won't have access to them. I locked in all my courses right after orientation for the bachelors.

According to my mentors manager, you can read in to that all you like, the course is locked in to the current version, but as long as you haven’t completed any PA or OA you can be moved to a newer version of the course is updated.
Recently they updated DDDM. That was really the only terrible course.
I would activate them one by one and when you are ready to submit your papers or take the test ask them to move them one by one in to the active term.
They are weirdly strict about finishing all the courses in the term before adding new ones even if you are pacing reallly well, so be strategic.

I would like to get a jumpstart on the courses. My goal is to complete everything, including the capstone, in 6 months. After reading several posts, it appears as though 6 months is more than enough time. Thanks for responding.

My mentor saw nothing wrong with activating all the courses at the beginning. He took me through each one when I started, so I activated them. If you want your mentor to take you really seriously and be more lax about moving up courses, try finishing the first course before you meet him/her. Worked for me.

One more question...does orientation really take 5-6 hours? Can I advance the videos without penalty?
