I think it's stupid and a waste of time/energy. The EU bans lots of things that are probably okay. Honestly, I think it's kind of weird when people who make fun of EU for overregulating or about the EU in general then turn around and say "EU banned this; we should too!" (I realize not everyone in favor of banning food dyes fits this bill.)

Are food dyes or artificial sweeteners a necessary food group? No. Are they necessarily bad? No. So many things that are harmless or even beneficial in small doses are dangerous in large doses: copper, potassium, magnesium, aspirin, glucose, etc etc etc.
