FHSU credit acceptance
#1
Have any of you had experience with transfer of Straighterline (and / or other ACE credits) to FHSU?

The 6 Straighterline courses that FHSU will directly give credit for are listed here.

When you finish your SL courses, you tell the advisor that you would like a transcript from FHSU. They explain the procedure, which takes about one week and costs $30. You end up with a transcript from FHSU.

If someone were to take several Straighterline courses, would it be wise to wait until all are complete to get a transcript?

Yes. My son took four SL courses and was advised to wait until they were completed to send the results to FHSU. They step you through the whole process which is seamless, efficient and quick. It took one week from the time he completed his last SL course until TESC received the transcript from FHSU.

It really doesn't matter but would depend on how many courses you were having transcripted. It is free from SL to FHSU and you get 3 free transcript transfer requests as an enrolled FHSU student.

If you are just taking SL courses and transcripting them through FHSU to another college, then it is recommended that you apply as a non-enrolled student. At that point, additional transcripts are $5 each.

If you formally enroll in FHSU, then you will have to send all your transcripts to them, which will cost money and time.

The recommended procedure is to wait until all SL courses are completed, apply as a non-enrolled student, pay the $30 to FHSU and get your transcripts within a week.

You speak the truth, I haven't dealt with them since 08 and was just reading their transcript policy today right before I posted, which was talking about the 3 free. It didn't specify anything about the different prices but I do remember paying $5 last time. I'll have to call them tomorrow regarding the request I sent in today.

The good thing was I didn't have to pay any additional money to become reactivated (a few weeks ago) even after 1 1/2 year absence.

Actually, just an update here. I do not go to FHSU and only paid the original $30 fee for bringing in the straighterline courses. I asked for another transcript to be sent to TESC last week and checked today to see if my card had been charged yet. It hadn't been charged so I called FHSU to see if it had been processed. They told me that it was sent off a day or so after the request and since I was a current student that I got the 3 free. Sounds good to me.

Make sure you realize that transcripting Straighterline courses to FHSU will give you letter grades. Sometimes the course syllabus will just give you the score needed to pass the course, which is actually the bare minimum (70%) and would result in a "C" or "C-minus." If you are an Excelsior student and looking to get the courses done fast, without much concern about your grade, just skip the FHSU process and have ACE send them directly to Excelsior. In this scenario the grades will be "pass" only and will not affect your GPA.

Yep, the letter grade is why I went the FHSU route even though it won't change my GPA at TESC. If I had gotten a bad grade I would have went through ACE instead.
