I will eventually figure this out from Excelsior, but I'm too impatient to wait several weeks before everything is processed. So, if anyone knows of the inner workings of GPA calculations, I would appreciate your help. I have roughly 60 transfer credits from other universities, with a 3.49 GPA. My goal is to get over a 3.50. Here is what I'd like to know.
1. For DSST tests with letter grades assigned (tests that are not the 400 pass/fail), does Excelsior calculate this into your cumulative GPA? I know they give you an A, B, or C on the transcript, but would an a also give you a 4.0 in that class, which then boosts your GPA?
2. When transferring credits from other colleges, does Excelsior "cut-off" the grade? For example, if I have an A- or a C+, would those grades be A and C, or do they keep that grade that was originally assigned? I was confused when reading one of the transfer policy books.
3. If you graduate with honors, is "Cum Laude" written on the diploma?
Thanks for your help!

Let me take a stab at this:
1. You have the Excelsior GPA and then the Overall GPA. If you pass a DSST with an A, then your GPA will be a 4.0 for that class/test. This will bring up your overall GPA. I received a "B" for The Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union and that brought my overall GPA from a 3.88 to a 3.79. Then I got a "A" on my last class which brought it up to a 3.81.
2. What Excelsior did with me was just kept it simple. 90 and above is 4.0 "A", 80 - 89 is "B" 3.0, etc. The + or - don't exist.
3. Can't help you with this one.

Thanks for the help and great job on the high GPA. I looked at my grades and it won't make a big difference concerning the transfer grade adjustment. I have five +s and five -s so it will even out mathematically.

Thanks for posting! Did Excelsior change their diploma? I read a thread from a few years ago and everyone was making fun of their cheap looking diplomas. The one in that picture looks great!

I was happy with it too. Many people at my office have their diplomas displayed. Most are from well-known universities and law schools. While some do look more regal and have more greek letters, I'm still very satisfied with mine. I haven't been able to determine if Excelsior's diplomas used to look different or if it's just a matter of taste/expectation.
