The government created a fake university allegedly to catch visa violators. Has the sting backfired?

Quote:Nathanson said that many students tried to enroll in other colleges once they found out that they were not receiving classes from Farmington, but Farmington officials, who were actually DHS agents, would not sign off for them to transfer.
"They were paying for classes but they weren't receiving the classes, so a lot of them researched other universities and got admitted to other universities but then the University of Farmington staff they were interacting with refused to sign off on their transfers," said Nathanson. After they were denied the ability to transfer, she said that the students were essentially stuck.
Since when do you need permission from another university to transfer? Is this an F1 visa thing? If so, that seems unnecessarily cruel and unusual.

Yeah, I remember reading about this before, a few or handful of the students wanted to use this "fake university" for immigration and visa purposes. You know, pay and stay, but not really take courses and/or graduate with anything. However, most of the students were actually trying to get into the university to do "real" studies and graduate so they can work further towards immigration. I think it was a waste of tax dollars for this, they could have done something differently instead.

So they punished students who, when they found out the classes were fake, wanted to leave to go to a real school?!? Unbelievable.

To be an F1 student is to live through a Franz Kafka novel. If you're lucky then The Castle, less so then The Trial, and for a few, Metamorphosis.

I'm still FURIOUS this ever happened. Atrocious and un-American.
