General Office classes.....

Jude84 Wrote:For Quickbooks, I was going to use that for small businesses in the construction field that need a hands on office manager. I would like that route to break into the field. MS Project to learn scheduling for construction projects or just have a basic knowledge of to assist the schedulers. Perhaps I can pick up blueprint reading and autocad online too.

That's the ideal but if not I want to be well rounded for any company.

Now you said to be careful with setting myself apart from the rest of the candidates by listing advanced knowledge in MS Office? Why? Wouldn't it be good to stand out from the rest?

I'm sorry. I was typing something else and got distracted! I'm going to edit it so it's clear. Advanced proficiency is great and will definitely help make you a more valued candidate. Many people say they know a program but only use the basic features.

Sweet! Yeah many people say that they know excel but if tested only know a cursory level of it

Not sure on QB, but it can't hurt to know it. Not sure how much I'd spend to learn it. It's fairly easy to learn on your own.

I think actually taking a Project Management course from Study.com or Sophia might be a better way to show you know understanding of PM than just knowing the software (which I learned many years ago). I learned a LOT more about PM when I took the actual course than when I learned the software - the sw assumes that you know the process.

Again, I think looking at job postings to see what employers want is much more helpful than this forum - we can only speak to what we have experienced, but you need to actually do the job searching to see what employers want for the jobs YOU want. We each only know about the industries we work in or have worked in.
