Yes, I got in and started my first class this semester. However, work was flying me all over the place, and I decided to withdraw, at least for this semester. If you really want to learn about the program I recommend the Google+ group. There is a thriving community there that is every bit as friendly and helpful as this one.

I'm in the same boat with this except I'm trying to decide whether or not to apply at all. The OMSCS will stress my family life, free time, and job for years. Even if I were single, I would hesitate at this time commitment. You can tell from my tone that I'm probably not going to apply for OMSCS.

They have an acceptance rate under 53%. Heres a thread on people that got accepted. Wonder if they accept people from non traditional learning paths like the Big 3? TESC/OAK/Excelsior

Longer answer, the bachelor's by itself might not be enough, but if you have some experience as well, it should be a slam dunk. I don't believe that the source of your bachelor's matters very much. Also that number is compiled from people who posted in the Reddit thread, it is not the actual acceptance rate. Anyway, if you read through that thread (more helpful might be the linked Fall 2016 thread) you will quickly get a good idea of who's getting in and who isn't.

TESC/OAK/ExcelsiorIt would be the definition of irony for a distance learning graduate program to reject an applicant because of a distance learning undergraduate degree, no? Now, if you have a BA in Social Justice and minor in finger painting with no experience in the field, I think your chances are low. The acceptance rate may be about 1/2, but how many of those applicants have completely irrelevant majors and no experience? Remove them from the heap, readjust, and you have a more useful statistic. |
