Getting closer and closer to graduation
#1
Hi all,

I keep inching closer and closer to graduation, but I'm still worried about completing everything on time.

I'm currently a TESC student, and so far I've got 83 credit hours with 37 to go. I'm doing the BSBA in general management. I recently signed up & completed PLA 100 & 200 at TESC and I was approved for 6 classes via portfolio. Assuming that goes well, that'll bring me up to 101 credits. I was hoping one of you fine folks would take a look at my degree plan and let me know if you think I'm taking the best route to completing this degree. I plan to follow up with my adviser next week, but I'm getting really worried about having to pay an additional $3,000 if I miss the deadline.

Based on my TESC transcripts, I'm missing the following.

1. Managerial Communication (Does SL work for this?)
2. Accounting 102 (I plan to do SL for this one)
3. Business Law (I'm thinking about either SL or DSST)
4. Principles of Finance (I plan to do this via DSST with IC)
5. Strategic Management/Business Policy (I'm not aware of anything other than TECEP to complete this)
6. Business in society (does Business ethics in society DSST work for this?)

Now based on my specialization, these are the courses that were recommended to me.
A)
1. ACC-303 Cost Accounting (PLA portfolio)
2. International Management (PLA portfolio)
3. HR Management (already completed)

B)
1. Advertising (TECEP was recommended)
2. Principles of Sales (PLA portfolio was recommended)
3. Small Business Finance (PLA porfolio)

I'm not one to argue with advisers, but it seems like there should be some of the upper level DSST tests that could cover these areas. I've not taken any of the following DSST exams, and I believe they should be able to fit into my degree somewhere.

1. Business Ethics & Society
2. Management Information Systems
3. Money & Banking
4. Organizational Behavior

I don't mean to come across as lazy, but anytime I can study for a week or two (or 3) instead of trying to write a 15 page paper that may or may not be accepted, I'm going to go for it. I'm trying to maximize the time that I have left. Any thoughts, questions, recommendations?

Thanks

2. Accounting 102 (I plan to do SL for this one)
3. Business Law (I'm thinking about either SL or DSST) - This was pretty simple on SL, I'd recommend this
4. Principles of Finance (I plan to do this via DSST with IC) - Penn foster will also work
5. Strategic Management/Business Policy (I'm not aware of anything other than TECEP to complete this) - Penn foster has a class that works for this as well.
6. Business in society (does Business ethics in society DSST work for this?) - SL Business Ethics will work for this.

I would look at the degree plans floating around. There should be plenty of test out options for the general management BSBA.

Thank you both so much! This may actually mean I don't need to write a darn thing... I'd much rather study and test out than write a ridiculously long paper that may or may not be accepted.

Thanks again! I'll contact my adviser to confirm all this information, but you guys just saved me a lot of time. Much appreciated!

Happy to help! From what they advised you to take, it looks like they are internally pushing the Siben PLA program. [SMH] No need for you to get caught up in that nonsense when you have completed exams that can be used. TESC is really beginning to become annoying. It's a shame when you are no longer comfortable promoting your own alma mater. Not without surveillance on what the student is being told.

Did you enroll prior to the Personal & Social Responsibility requirement; if not, what's sitting in the ethics slot?

Keep on coming back here when you have questions and Good Luck on completing your program!

Thanks again! I don't believe that I have this new section that you mentioned. I have a section on my transcripts listed as "G: Bus in Soc/Int'l Mgt:" and I plan to take SL business ethics to fill that slot. I'll send you a PM in a moment regarding PLA.

The only real concern I have right now is that it looks like DSST may have temporarily suspended Money & Banking. On their website it said the following "Starting January 1, 2015 this exam will be temporarily removed from registration and will return once we complete our revisions, update content, and receive new ACE approvals.". I'm not sure if that means it's officially gone for now (since it's still listed on the site) or if it's just listed there because it's not a permanent change. If that's the case, I need to find another class to fill that slot.

I apologize, I misread your initial post. I thought you had already completed the exams. Instead of money and banking, you can take Intermediate Accounting I through Straighterline (Financial Accounting ACC151) or Penn Foster. I took it through Penn Fpster and completed it easily over five days. Added perk, the Penn Foster final is not proctored, so no stress at all. If you use Straigherline be sure to utilize the buy one get one free promo code.

Straigherline's Business Ethics and DSST Business Ethics & Society duplicate.

I'll definitely look into that PF accounting course! Proctoring adds a bit of tension to a test knowing someone is watching you. I'll check both of them out though. I've already taken a few courses with SL so I'll have to see if that promo still works for me! I'm thinking SL may be a better alternative to the DSST for Business ethics; I'll still weigh that option a bit though. Thanks for the recommendations

I knocked out business ethics via straighterline today. One down, a bunch to go.

The SL Intermediate Accounting class (financial accounting) is a pretty easy one. The proctoring does add a bit but I didn't find it to be too stressful.
