Just passed ALEKS College Algebra; what next?
#1
I just passed my inital assessment for College Algebra with ALEKS. I got 89%! I had already put in the grunt work in Intermediate Algebra so had decent knowledge of algebra plus Mathway & various YouTube videos helped me to tackle the additional topics covered in the assessment.

I still have 3 months of the 6-month paid period left so I'm wondering whether it's worth taking another course or two. And more importantly, will TESC give credits for all of the courses or is there too much crossover?

The two courses that I think may be doable are Pre-Calculus and Trigonometry. Should I tackle them in any particular order? Is one easier than the other? Will TESC give credits for these and my College Algebra?

Thanks

TESC will accept your Intermediate Algebra and College Algebra. They will also accept:
1. Either Pre-Cal or Trig (but not both)
2. Intro to Stats, Behavioral Stats, or Business Stats (pick one of the three)

Since you have 3 months, focus on the Pre-Cal or Trig first, then try Stats if you still have time. Good luck!

Thanks, KayV!

I passed the Behavioural Stats last week so I can cross that one off the list.

Hmmm... so which one to do out of trigonometry or pre-calculus? I'm wondering which will make most use of what I already know...

I chose trigonometry (336 topics) because pre-calculus (582 topics) had a lot more topics to master.

I think if you've recently taken stats, precalc may be the best choice. If you had taken college algebra w/trig, I would have said go with trig. Look over both subjects on khan academy and make your decision. Also, you could always do a quick runthrough of both topics on ALEKS to see which you score higher on the first run through. (shrugs)

I'm actually a huge Aleks fan. I took the following Aleks courses: Beginning Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra w/Trig, PreCalculus, Intro to Stats, Stats for Beh Sciences, Business Stats. I was lucky and got in early on so was awarded credit for beg algebra, and both intro to stats and bus stats. (Completed within one month, 18 crs for $60.) Currently, having the possibility of earning up to 12cr, even if it takes 1 or 6mos, is still a nice bargain.

Doesn't precalc cover everything that trig does and then some?

PreCal covers both algebra and trigonometry. If you've taken both Intermediate and College Algebra, then it's possible to take PreCal next and work on the algebra slices. The trig slices will take more time to digest, if you're okay about it.

Stats is different from Algebra, Trig, and PreCal. It requires knowledge of Algebra, but that's just a minor portion of the slice.

I covered the ALEKS courses in the following order:
Intermediate Algebra
College Algebra
PreCalculus
Introduction to Stats
Behavioral Stats
Business Stats
Beginning Algebra

The last 3 were just for extra credits, but they won't transfer to TESC.
