I have to take the Biology test on Monday and I'm wondering if anyone has scored higher than a 70 on Biology? (That is what I have to have to exempt the science classes).
I've seen scores lower than 70, but I haven't seen any higher scores.
If you have scored higher than 70, do you have any recommendations for other resources to study? I'm using Standard Deviants Biology and Instacert so far.

I've never even said that out loud  J/k seriously though, what's the point of scoring over 70?

Because my university doesn't count it for the class I'm trying to CLEP out of unless I make a 70. (Stated above).
I just watched Standard Deviants Biology, it was EXCELLENT for simplifying the concept (and the relationships between things - which is what I've been missing). Hopefully this will help me with the rest of my studying and to score above a 70.
Does anyone have any tips on what I need to focus on or if they used Standard Deviants and made above a 70 (between that and Instacert?)

Would you mind sharing which university it is? That's the kind of thing we like to keep track of around here lol. I ask cuz that's a really really high score, that would have to put you in the 95th % or better. For a non-science-major science class that seems really high.

I came close....I scored a 69, if I remember right.
The thing that helped me the most was to make my own flashcards. I did the IC flashcards too but there are so MANY of them for that test that I didn't do my usual 3-4 times through each section.
Instead I got the REA book and made a flashcard for just about every highlighted term I came across. I made a flashcard, for instance, listing the differences between monocots and dicots, a flashcard for the different types of biomes, etc. When it came time for the test, I could picture my scribbles and my little quickie charts and it helped recall the right answers.
I also used this website: http://www.sparknotes.com/biology/
It's a little more detailed than you'll probably need on some stuff but it's very helpful and has lots of good practice quizzes. I kept notes in a notebook as I read through the stuff--that helped when I made up my own flashcards also.
Don't be in a hurry. Study, study, study with every resource you can think of and do whatever it takes to drill things into your memory well enough to instantly recall them. It's tedious, but definitely doable.

CLEP Test Review | CLEP Test Review has fantastic practice quizzes split up in 4:
Molecular and Cellular Bio
Organismal Bio
Population Bio
AND a Full-Length Stimulated Exam
NOTE: It does cost $20 to join but I found it extremely worth while to pinpoint my weak spots!
I really hope this helps you! Good Luck!

I STUDIED A LOT for the Biology test, and made a 53. Passing, but not even CLOSE to what I need to score to CLEP out of the class. I took the first half of this class last semester at KSU (Kennesaw State U in GA) and I have to score a 70 to CLEP out of the second half. The Instacert wasn't real helpful, and the Standard Deviant's helped me connect the dots on the concepts, but neither were comprehensive enough to cover the types of questions that were on the exam. These helped me memorize some of the concepts, but left out a lot of details and relationships in things that were pertinent to the test. Is there a guide that hones in on the critical areas needed and has more depth in those specific areas? That is what I need before I retake this in 6 months. More of the same won't do...

I believe that the REA books are the best on the market- if you can't find the one for the CLEP bio, you could use the AP bio.

I am splitting my time studying between English Lit., Biology, and College Math. Maybe I am just spreading myself too thin, but making a 70 in a subject that isn't exactly my strong suit seems impossible. It also seems insane that your university would require a score that high. Are you a science major?
As for study guides, I am using Biology Made Simple by Rita Mary King (I highly recommend), and College Biology(Collins College Outlines).
Good luck to you. I'm going to need it myself.

For anyone following this thread, it is HIGHLY unlikely that ANY college would give a science major credit for this (or any CLEP science) exam, it (they are) 6 credits of non-lab science. It's possible that this could be a pre-req for a general biology 1 lab course. TESC doesn't even give you credit "in major" for this exam.
Always double check!
