Help me understand this transfer policy
#11
I can't imagine that 100% of the major must come from a 4-yr school, I don't think I've heard of a school where that is the rule. I really do think it's 50% must come from ECU. You're telling me that they wouldn't accept Intro to Communication from a CC? I doubt that very much.

NC has a guaranteed transfer - it's our state law, so Eastern Carolina University is required by law to accept a full AA or AS from another NC community college as a full and perfect transfer for 60 credits. Where they "get cha" is there may still be prereqs (like a foreign language in the program you're considering) which are not waived even when you bring in an AA. If you're bringing in an AA or AS from a NC community college, you're going to end up completing more than 120 credits unless you were very careful in your planning.

(a) A minimum of 25% of the credit hours required for the degree (that is to say 25% of 120 = 30 credits)
and (and, not or)
at least 50% of the total hours required in the major (keep in mind the major can be any amount of credits, this is 34)
must be completed at ECU (50% of 34 = 17 credits)
and (b) A minimum of 50% of the semester hours required in the student’s major (17 credits- see above)
must be earned through enrollment in a regionally accredited senior college. (the word senior meaning NOT a NC community college)

All of that to say, you can transfer in these 3 areas:
1. General education requirements - 40 s.h.
2. Demonstrated foreign language proficiency through level 1002 - 6 s.h.
Note: Foreign language through level 1004 is required for the journalism concentration. This is a requirement for graduation. The additional 6 s.h. will not be applied toward the journalism concentration total.
3. Core - 6 s.h.
COMM 1001 - Introduction to Communication
COMM 1003 - Introduction to Mass Media

And while they SAY transfer is allowed, the whole major will probably have to come from them.
