Help with AA plan?
#1
My spouse wants to get their associates degree, but aren't sure of where they stand as far as if they need more courses. They have 66 credits which I assume is enough for a degree, but you can't just transfer credits to a new college and get a degree, right? That's credit laundering I was told. I just want some guidance! Thank you in advance!

Here are their credits from East Carolina University:
  • COAD 1000 Student Development and Learning in Higher Education
  • MUSC 1018 Music Reading and Fundamentals for Non-Music Majors
  • BIOL 1100 Principles of Biology
  • BIOL 1060 Environmental Biology
  • PSYC 1000 Introduction to Psychology
  • HLTH 1000 Health in Modern Society
  • MATH 1065 College Algebra
  • GERO 2400 Introduction to Gerontology
  • MUSC 2258 History of Jazz Music
  • RELI 1000 Intro to Religious Studies
  • ENGL 1100 Composition
  • ENGL 1200 Composition
  • MUSC 2226 Introduction to Popular Music Styles in America
  • SOCI 2110 Introduction to Sociology
  • THEA 1000 Intro to Theater
  • ART 1906 The Dimensions of Art
  • ART 1906 Art History Survey
  • ART 2205 Digital Video Production Survey
  • ART 2206 Applied Production Techniques
  • PHIL 2271 Intro to Philosophy of Art
  • ART 2411 Introduction to Scriptwriting
  • ART 2460 Image Theory and Aesthetics

Have you checked with the univ where they completed these credits? If they completed enough for an associates and it fits Into one of their degree plans, I would think you could work something out. I’m sure there would be a cost involved but I can’t imagine as much as going completely somewhere else.

I’m not as experienced with these as some other members are but this is what my personal first line of action would be is to check with the old univ.

You can transfer credits to another college, but again, there will be a cost involved (maybe take their required classes or pay per credit to convert.)

Well it is possible, mostly. The Pierpont BOG AAS (VA) may be a good fit.  Since you're spouse would want a transcript available it would be strongly recommended that they take the one credit course to get that produced.

Below if the associate degree page (not sure if the existing credits meet all the criteria),

and here is a link(s) to the 1 credit course info from one of the many threads on the topic

If you want a degree at COSC, you need Speech, Ethics, US History/Government, and a lab science. Then enroll, take the cornerstone, and you're done.

For Pierpont, you get an AAS (which is not always good, depending on the school you want to transfer to later), but it will certainly be cheaper if you want to get it. 1cr there, and you're done.

Thank you! East Carolina University doesn’t have associate degrees unfortunately. I wonder which college is the most affordable to transfer to.

I think with cosc https://www.charteroak.edu/prospective/tuition/ the only thing you have to do through them is the 3 credit cornerstone https://www.charteroak.edu/catalog/2017-...ements.php

all the other things can be transferred in
but as dfrecore said they require a 4 credit science + lab course

study.com and straighterline have some that are relatively inexpensive (but remember to include the price of the lab kit -- about another $120)
but none of them look interesting (I did chemistry, biology and physics back in high school a LONG time ago and I know I would find each of these labs boring and hate every minute of doing them)

https://study.com/academy/course/biology...h-lab.html

https://study.com/academy/course/chemist...try-i.html

https://www.straighterline.com/online-co...siology-i/

https://www.straighterline.com/online-co...emistry-i/

https://www.straighterline.com/online-co...physics-i/

https://www.straighterline.com/online-co...on-majors/

https://www.straighterline.com/online-co...robiology/

so if you go with COSC then the 4 credit lab and the 3 credit cornerstone would be your only big expenses

if you go with TESU https://www.tesu.edu/academics/what-you-can-study
then you've got to pay the residency waiver fee https://www.tesu.edu/tuition/fees
unless you take 16 credits through them which would be even more expensive

I just wanted to add that I don't see a computer course in the listing you provided.  If you do pursue the Pierpont BOG AAS you may be able to use one (or more) of the TEEX courses to meet this requirement. I'd post under one of the Pierpont BOG AAS threads (or create a new one) and ask those who completed this degree if the credits would work for the Computer Literacy.  It is the only requirement that I see that is missing.  Here is the wiki page for the Free TEEX course(s) I mentioned: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Fr..._of_Credit
